Position Purpose

Position Purpose
To provide direct instruction, technical support and skills to students with disabilities who are deaf/hearing impaired; this includes providing appropriate tools, materials and curricular support; maintaining appropriately functioning audio equipment as well as providing instruction and support in the functional areas of daily living and vocational preparation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate, individualized instruction to each student on the caseload
- Develop lesson and schedules that meet the goals of each student
- Provide consultation and assistance to general and special education teachers as to physical and instructional modifications needed for each student
- Establish open, frequent communication with parents, and all related service, special and general education staff
- Present appropriate and specific information of student's progress towards goals, including evaluative and progress data
- Complete and present detailed functional hearing evaluation as part of any triennial evaluation
- Demonstrate ability to implement technical skills for students who are deaf/hearing impaired including:
- Teaching student to use appropriate amplification aids and tools to maximize their functional hearing
- Selecting appropriate software and assistive technology
- Interpreting medical reports and helping student and family to understand the student's hearing loss at an appropriate level
- Develop and implement appropriate individual and classroom behavior management skills/programs
- Coordinate and create materials in the student's preferred media
- Assist student to develop appropriate social and independent skills across the curriculum
- Participate in appropriate staff meetings to review and discuss student needs and progress, and participate in professional development meetings as requested
- Supervise professional assistants
- Familiarity with national, state, and local standards for the delivery of special education support services.
- Knowledge and experience, in any educational setting, of effective practices in the instruction of students who are deaf/hearing impaired (including data collection and analysis).
- Familiarity with research based education of students who are deaf/hearing impaired.
- Committed to the success of all students.
- Proficiency with computers and various classroom technologies, such as interactive whiteboards, tablets, or laptops.
- Digital proficiency in tech integration and the effective use of technology in classrooms and in distance learning.
- Demonstrate written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrate collaborative work skills.
- Demonstrate work ethic.
- Familiarity with the Facilitated IEP process.
- Familiarity with the Medicaid Reimbursement process.
- Demonstrate leadership experience.
- Demonstrate excellent research, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with IEP Direct.
Certification/License
- Special Education certification with 057 Hard of Hearing, PK–12
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree Preferred
- Working knowledge of American Sign Language and knowledge of how to teach students with hearing impairments in a public school setting, comfort and skill in teaching functional daily living experiences, familiarity with amplification tools,
- Experience working in mainstream environments with general and special education teachers and related service providers
- Commitment to professional development
