Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school division, is seeking two proven leaders to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of the Department of Human Resources and the Executive Director, Communications and Community Relations.

FCPS, located in the Washington, D.C. region, serves a diverse student population of more than 189,010 students in grades pre-K through 12. FCPS students come from all over the world and speak nearly 200 languages. FCPS is the third largest employer in Virginia. The school division has approximately 27,500 full-time employees and an operating budget of $3.1 billion.

Assistant Superintendent of the Department of Human Resources

Description: Plans, directs, manages, and evaluates all FCPS Department of Human Resources programs, services, and personnel to include the offices responsible for benefit services, recruitment and staffing, licensure, employee performance, equity and employee relations, salary administration, position classification and organizational development, and employee recognition and retention; serves as liaison between the School Board, employee associations and advisories, community groups, and the Department of Human Resources; and serves as a trustee on the Fairfax County Employee Retirement System Board.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, human resources, psychology, or a closely related field; plus eight years of progressively more responsible experience in human resources management. Doctoral degree preferred. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public school system policies and human resources programs; and knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to the FCPS human resources programs.

Executive Director, Communications and Community Relations

Description: Leads all FCPS Office of Communication and Community Relations activities, services, and personnel to include responsibility for communication, community relations, and business relations; supports the division Leadership Team and the School Board Office in their linkages to stakeholders; serves as a liaison between the School Board, parents, and community and business groups, and the Office of Communication and Community Relations.  Develops and implements a communication plan for the district.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equal to a master's degree in journalism, media relations, communication, education, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; plus eight years progressive experience in developing and managing complex multimedia communication programs and/or experience in establishing and managing programs to develop and enhance community and business partnerships. Doctoral degree preferred. Knowledge of communications management, public school system policies, commutation outreach programs and available communication technologies; and knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to FCPS communication and community relations.

Preferred start date is February 1, 2021, or as soon thereafter as possible.
