POSITION TITLE: Resource Teacher for the Gifted

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters in Gifted Education or Endorsement in Gifted Education.


  • Recent successful classroom experience of five or more years.


  • Ability to plan and cooperate with other classroom teachers.


  • Ability and experience with diverse populations.


  • Ability to articulate the differentiated curriculum model to teachers and parents.


  • Ability to demonstrate effective classroom delivery of gifted curriculum through a collaborative model.

  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is a 1.0 FTE located at Hoffman-Boston Elementary School.

***This position is a term position that is effective for FY20 through June 18, 2021 only. You would need to re-apply for a position for FY21**

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Spend four hours a day in the classroom with direct contact with students and/or teachers, with exceptions for planning/staff development days, identification procedures and committees, and county-wide Gifted Services obligations.

  • Model lessons for the classroom teacher in differentiated instruction strategies, creative thinking strategies, critical thinking strategies, creative problem-solving, product development, and research skills.

  • Administer all elements of the Gifted Services identification process and lead school-based identification committee. Co-plan with classroom teachers to extend activities conducted by the resource teacher both before and after classroom visits.

  • Arrange for speakers, field trips, and other resources to support differentiated curriculum in each classroom with gifted children.

  • Obtain materials from the gifted services curriculum lab to support activities which are part of the differentiated curriculum for gifted students. Plan and conduct the annual Gifted Parent Information Meeting in October.

  • Initiate identification of and assist with provisions for at-risk gifted students as well as follow-up for students already identified.

  • Facilitate cross-grade instructional grouping where appropriate for individual gifted students, mentorship arrangements for minority high potential students and for exceptionally gifted students.

  • Conduct demonstration workshops for school staff regarding identification procedures, techniques for utilizing differentiated curriculum and instruction, parent conference information.

  • Disseminate information about gifted information to staff and school community. Attend training workshops and/or conferences on Gifted Education when available, and county-wide meetings and in-service during the school year.

  • Assist in planning and implementation of county-wide staff development. Present relevant gifted services information at county-wide and school meetings. Take a county-wide leadership role in training teachers in Gifted Education strategies and techniques.


  • Conduct workshops for school staff during the school year, at regional conferences when appropriate, and for parents at October Gifted Services information meeting at each school.
