I f hired, you will be required to complete three days of online training and shadowing. After successful completion of training, you will be paid $500.00. You must utilize your own computer and internet access.

Job Title: Virtual Substitute Teacher

Pay Grade: Per the Hourly / Substitute / Temporary pay scale on the division website.

Period of Employment: On call, as needed

Supervised by and/or Reports to: School Administrators, Substitute Coordinators

General Responsibilities: Responsible for providing online classroom coverage, student supervision, and student learning in the absence of the classroom teacher.

Essential Duties:

  • Teaches scheduled classes in a virtual learning environment.
  • Prepares a written summary of work completed.
  • Follows the teacher's written lesson plans. Consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
  • Notifies absent teacher of special situations or problems encountered.
  • Adheres to school and division policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Upholds computer technology acceptable usage policies.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Addresses student behavior issues.
  • Utilizes Zoom and Schoology to deliver lessons.
  • Maintains attendance records.
  • Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
  • Supervises paraprofessionals when applicable.
  • Utilizes effective online classroom management skills.
  • Performs other duties as requested.


Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Comfortable working with various forms of technology to effectively teach in the virtual world.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in a virtual classroom.
  • Organized and careful about time management.
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge of and is sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Serves as a role model.


Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.


Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of effectively using and operating various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
