The Senior Manager of Post-Secondary Pathways will create a systematic approach for post-secondary exposure for high school athletes including academic awareness for grades 6-12. This includes designing and implementing programs for elementary and high school students in grades 6-12 that raise students' awareness for academic success, goal setting, athletic skills development, leadership, team and individual sport support, and sportsmanship.

Typical Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop partnerships with organizations to foster opportunities for athletes in grades 6-12 for academic achievement, life skills training, leadership, and athletic development.

  • Conduct outreach and develop partnerships to establish and maintain post-secondary pathways to NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, Chicago City Colleges, and HBCU schools and nonprofit organizations locally and nationally for the benefit of CPS student-athletes.

  • Partner with the Office of School Counseling & Postsecondary Advising, the Office of Social and Emotional Learning Network Chiefs, principals, guidance counselors, and other applicable stakeholders to define and implement postsecondary pathways for student athletes;

  • Draft and edit key communications documents for schools and parents to promote the alignment of academics and sports for grades 6-12;

  • Lead the continuous improvement process including outlining a clear vision, strategy, and operational plan for postsecondary pathways for student athletics in partnership with the Executive Director;

  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to highlight, communicate and market postsecondary programs and activities to the student athletes and the broader CPS community;

  • Serve as a liaison to key internal departments to communicate and converge on key strategic initiatives;

  • Develop and implement summer programs for academic and athletic skill development;

  • Coordinate online and in-person programs to increase academic awareness for middle school athletes grades 5-8 and high school athletes for Post Secondary opportunities;

  • Develop metrics to track and evaluate the effectiveness of key strategic postsecondary athletic initiatives;

  • Identify post-secondary opportunities for CPS student athletes;

  • Collaborate with the Office of College and Career Counseling to communicate to schools and parents regarding academic and athletic thresholds and expectations for post-secondary opportunities;

  • Partner with elementary schools grades 6-8 to convey information about high school academic and athletic expectations for potential student athletes; and

  • Performs additional duties assigned.



To be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Senior Manager of Post- Secondary Pathways and Educational Partnerships must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master degree in Education or a related field preferred



Type and Years of Experience Required :

  • Minimum of five (5) years of sports administration experience at the middle school and high school levels

  • Demonstrated track record of supporting urban students to achieve high levels and prepare for post-secondary education

  • Prior experience working with guidance counselors



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholder groups

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Motivated self-starter able to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage several projects and priorities simultaneously ExceptionalDemonstrated excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills



Other Requirements

  • Flexible hours during evenings and weekends



Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
