REACH Academy Charter School is looking for a full time Social Worker who will serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary classroom team to provide behavioral and clinical direction, support, and treatment to school-age children with special needs, and social and emotional concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Counsel scholars with personal and psychological issues that affect their performance, behavior, and socialization in school;
- Providing counseling sessions, treatment plans, or workshops as necessary and establishing prevention programs and intervention plans;
- Communicate with students to determine the areas in which they may need assistance or counseling;
- Assisting teachers and administrators with behavioral and attitude issues by communicating with students to find the causes of their distress;
- Provide information, when appropriate, to outside support services to help students with economic, emotional, or physical issues;
- Assist at-risk students or students with disabilities;
- Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand students' challenges;
- Maintain case files and reports to track students' progress and problems;
- Help students and families suffering from abuse, violence, hunger, or homelessness to access resources like shelters, food banks, and medical care;
- Serve on student support teams and special education committees at assigned schools in the division;
- Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions;
- Conduct parent interviews to acquire socio-developmental information as needed for special education referral;
- Analyze information gained through record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs;
- Attend and participate in Manifestation meetings;
- Interview students and parents to discuss issues related to non-attendance and develop a plan of action;
- Assist the school in following school board regulations for excessive absences and truancy;
- Attend student support team meetings and court intervention;
- Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested;
- Provide individual and/or group counseling in response to school-wide crises;
- Conduct home visits as a method to access the family and conduct interviews in response to school referrals;
- Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refers parents and student to agencies when appropriate;
- Perform related work as required.
- Hold a Masters Degree in Social Work;
- Hold NYS Licensure;
- Experience-1-2 years working with school-age children with social-emotional and behavioral concerns and delays;
- Excellent knowledge of early childhood development, sound understanding of the DSM 5 and disorders of early childhood;
- Ability to physically handle acting out children and provide therapeutic physical interventions;
- Strong team leadership, organization, and communication skills;
- Knowledge of CPS, community services, and basic understanding of local neighborhoods, cultures, and demographics.
