The Engagement Specialist supports student retention by providing non-instructional intervention and support to students in grades 6-12. This individual is responsible for working with students and parents to identify online learning strengths and areas for improvement and ensure student improvement through holistic intervention strategies. The Engagement Specialist will monitor, track and address the needs of the students specifically regarding online learning success factors while building and maintaining relationships with students and parents.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Develop and run a 6th grade transition program for students entering Insight School of Oklahoma for the first time in the virtual environment in monthly sessions;
  • Develop and run an 8th grade transition program for students preparing for high school in monthly sessions;
  • Develop and run a transition program for 9th graders to successfully adapt to high school in the virtual environment from 8th grade or outside in monthly sessions;
  • Develop and run a senior mentor program to best support 12th grade students planning to graduate and next steps with a clear, concise transition plan in weekly sessions;
  • Conducts small group online student and parent resource sessions on academic, career, and social emotional topics as scheduled; Several social emotional learning (SEL) curriculums will be utilized and conducted by engagement specialists that have a focus on expertise in mental health and social work;
  • Monitors student academic progress (key success metrics towards graduation) for students in grades 9-12, and make tiered intervention program adjustments to meet student needs quarterly;
  • Facilitates students changes such as program changes, accelerations, extensions, and activities based on individual student needs with counselors;
  • Analyzes student strengths and challenges as identified in the online learner profile and delivers targeted holistic intervention to drive student success;
  • Conducts orientation sessions for students and learning coaches at the beginning of each cohort; Educates on system navigation techniques and tips through emails, orientations, phone calls and by moderating the online learning course;
  • Utilizes early warning indicators to identify high school students who are most likely at risk of not graduating; creates a database of at-risk students and tracks individual and subpopulation progress toward graduation;
  • Maintains regular contact and meetings with students and families, as assigned, via telephone, e-mail, instant messenger, and/or web conferencing to foster strong academic relationships and provide necessary support;

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, Law Enforcement, or related field of study AND
  • Two (2) years of customer service experience AND
  • Experience working with at-risk children or youth OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: Oklahoma teaching certificate, Oklahoma mental health license, or CLEET license.

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of state graduation criteria
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both in-person and electronic communication platforms and a customer service orientation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point); general ability to learn new technology skills quickly
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time including travel to the school office for collaboration and maintenance of records, state testing, professional development, outings, and school planning meetings
  • Ability to clear required background check
