DESCRIPTION: A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is needed for the 2020-21 school year.

PURPOSE: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is a member of a multidisciplinary school team. The COTA provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of eligible students. The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Illinois licensure as a COTA from the State of Illinois
2. Current Certification from the National Board of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT)
3. Ability to make minor decisions with minimal supervision in accordance with established procedures.
4. Must be physically able to provide therapy to students in grades Early Childhood to Grade 8
5. Ability to travel within Glenview 34 district buildings as necessary
6. Pediatric and special education experience preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Implement the individualized/small group therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist based on IEP goals and objectives.Consult and assist classroom staff through gathering and sharing information at team meetings when requested.Discuss and exchange information about the students assigned with the occupational therapist.Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the educational team with regard to self help skills, fine motor skills, and visual motor skills needed for school performance in collaboration with the occupational therapist.Collaborate with the educational team in order to share information and expertise to implement effective student programs as prescribed by the occupational therapist.Assist occupational therapist in determining extent to which goals and objectives are being met by collecting and maintaining data on individual student goals.Assist therapist in formulating new goals based on data analysis.Maintain a safe and clean environment. Protect students and staff by adhering to infection control policies and student health plans.Keep logs with COTA/OTR supervisor signatures for the purpose of documenting OTR supervising as required by Illinois occupational therapy rules and regulations.Maintain files and/or records in accordance with Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act and Glenview 34 District policies.Participates in school and district MTSS, SEL, and Nonviolent Crisis Interventions (NVCI) as needed. Attends required staff and district meetings.Maintain confidentiality per FERPA and HIPAA regulations. Obtains necessary releases of information documents prior to exchanges with outside professionals.Assume appropriate roles as adult model, behavior manager, and eduator.Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.


TERM & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Full-time (1.0 FTE) position available during the 2020-21 school year. Will work the Certified Staff School Year.
