    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

    General Statement:

    The Director of Facilities is responsible for overall physical plant management and operations, custodial programs, and reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools. The Director of Facilities is responsible for providing leadership and management for the continuous improvement of the overall maintenance operation serving a 17,000+ student population.

    The position presents a challenging leadership opportunity in managing 21 school totaling approximately 3 million square feet. Developing long-range major projects, planning and scheduling work assignments within defined time periods and maintaining financial and operational controls are essential components of this position.

    Key Functions:
    • Develop, organize, plan, and control all aspects of physical building maintenance, operation, and custodial activities.
    • Work with the Facilities Managers to schedule, coordinate, and manage custodians, trades, and contracted service workers.
    • Identify and recommend short-term and long-term repairs and improvements for the school facilities and grounds in order to maintain healthy and safe environments for students, staff, and the community.
    • Work with Facilities Managers to review work orders daily and follow up with custodians and trades.
    • Establish cooperative partnership with School Principals and Facilities Managers, or designee, and discuss concerns and progress on all work orders and projects.
    • Walk and inspect all school sites with Facilities Managers regularly.
    • Work directly with City Engineering Department, contractors, architects, and engineers in connection with short and long-term capital projects.
    • Work in conjunction with Facilities Managers to develop and direct the school district's snow removal plan for schools in their area of responsibility.
    • Assume a lead role with labor relations for custodian and trades.
    • Assume a lead role developing and overseeing a preventative maintenance program.
    • Lead district-wide efforts to complete, maintain, and update a facilities capital asset assessment.
    • Work collaboratively with Facilities Managers to work with building administrators and staff to ensure a clean and safe environment for all students and staff.
    • Work collaboratively with Facilities Managers to work to conduct regular building inspections for safety, cleaning standards, and procedure compliance.
    • Work collaboratively with Facilities Managers to work to coordinate inspections by state agencies, insurance companies, fire, police, and health department.
    • Attend and present at Board meetings as necessary to communicate projects status, bid awards, and budget requests
    • Complete district compliance trainings as required.

    • Working knowledge of all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Connecticut School Code regulations that apply to the Facilities and Maintenance Department of the school district.
    • Proficiency in order management systems.
    • Ability to use technology to support systems and programs.
    • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

    Qualifications:
    • 5 or more years of successful experience in the facility management field (preferred).
    • Degree in engineering and/or architecture (preferred).
    • Experience analyzing problems and developing action plans.
    • Successful leadership experience.
    • Experience in municipal or educational environments (preferred).
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.

    12 months in keeping with contracts for term contract personnel

    Commensurate with experience
