The Business Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting the best practice methods or frameworks needed to deliver service, systems and other technologies.

The Business Analyst will work directly with technical, business, and educational staff to understand the current state, define the desired future state, and communicate the value and utility to all stakeholders.

The Business Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • With the Enterprise Architecture Manager, develop and implement a methodology to evaluate new and existing platforms for use at CPS

  • Work with internal and external partners throughout the CPS organization and investigate new tools, or technology that meet business needs

  • Define, analyze and document business requirements and business cases upon initiation of new projects, or for the feasibility phase

  • Provides technical consultation to business partners and technology management to ensure that the development of new and/or existing application systems use established standards, procedures and methodologies

  • Evaluate the fitness of various tools that meet specific project needs

  • Draft and validate technical and operational requirements, assess and communicate the impacts, trade-offs, risks, costs, benefits and opportunities of technology solutions to steering committees

  • Assist with the development of an architecture strategy and process that helps align technology projects with business requirements

  • Support the alignment and/or streamlining of business processes, technology and business strategy

  • Perform review of contracts and/or other procurement-related processes and work with CPS partners to define technical requirements for proposals (RFPs)

  • Provide a variety of services to appropriately position the CPS organization in support of emerging educational and operational needs

  • Document the service components, processes, dependencies, data, compliance mandates, and feasible technologies

  • Facilitate brainstorming meetings with various stakeholders



In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the IT Business Analyst must possess the following qualifications:

Ideal Educational Background :

  • Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology



or Business Administration

Years of Experience :

  • A minimum of 5 years of Business Analyst, or Information Technology experience



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Experience with developing and translating business requirements into IT specifications (strategy, platform selection, reference architecture design)

  • Knowledge of system development life cycle and relationship of business processes, data applications and technology to short term and long term mission goals

  • Working knowledge of developing and implementing an enterprise architecture (EA) governance Ability to work/execute on multiple projects

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, leadership, collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills and be able to manage conflict

  • Strong business knowledge or acumen and conceptual thinking

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people can understand as well as be able to explain customer needs and priorities in a way that technical people can understand.

  • Must be intrinsically motivated by a burning intellectual curiosity

  • Must be dedicated to improving the lives of Students, Parents, Teachers and Principals through the judicious use of Information Technology

  • This position will require Chicago residency within six months of accepting the position
