Senior Database Administrator / DBA III

About this role...
NWEA has an immediate need for a senior level Database Administrator. As a SQL Server DBA , you will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of all SQL Server systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of NWEA's applications. Your next challenge...
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments from development to mission-critical production systems. Configure and maintain database servers and processes including monitoring system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Test and configure database backups to meet the business s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes. Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide application developers with feedback on resource-intensive queries on the server and suggesting ways to improve performance on each. Design indexes for existing applications, proactively monitor query performance, and determine when to add or remove indexes.
  • Troubleshooting SQL Server service outages as they occur, including providing On call support during after-hours and weekends. After-hours work may also include, but not limited to scheduled maintenance, supporting application deployment, and hardware/software upgrades.
  • Plan and schedule the installation and configuration of new SQL Servers. Analyze the requirements for new projects and determine whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other technologies to solve a business problem.
  • Implement SQL Server monitoring utilities; refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes. Configure access levels for each segment of the database.
  • Share expertise with team members providing technical mentorship and cross-training as needed.
Traits for success...
  • Expertise in/hands-on experience with failover clustering, SAN replication, and other high availability technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server patching and upgrades.
  • Experience with developing scripts for SQL Server Backup, Integrity Check, and Index and Statistics Maintenance.
  • SQL Server merge, peer to peer, or transactional replication.
  • Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services.
  • Experience in Enterprise Design for high volume, transactional environments.
  • Experience in virtualized environments.
  • SQL 2012 2016 MCTS, MCITP, and/or MCDBA certifications are a plus.

Education and experience...
  • Bachelor 's degree in C omputer S cience or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years in s upport of a MS SQL Server Administration operating system, database management system
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and/or 2016 & higher
  • Minimum 5 years' e xperience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO)
  • Experience with Active Directory (one year)
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  • Understanding of different database models and styles (OLTP, OLAP)
  • Experience testing and configur ing database backups to meet the business Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
