Job Goal: The position of Classroom Assistant - Multiple Disabilities is responsible for assisting in carrying out a program for children, under the direction of the teacher and principal, consistent with the philosophy of the Program for Students with Exceptionalities.

Paraprofessional Salary Schedule Classroom Assistant (starting at $2, 723/month)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications :
- A High School diploma or equivalent and 48 college credits are required.

- Must have experience, understanding, compassion, patience, and feel comfortable working with children with exceptionalities.

- Must be willing to attend to the personal care needs of children.

- Must be able to deal with emergency situations.

- Training in basic CPR is helpful.

Competencies:
1. Lifting students from age 5-21.

2. Change diapers for male and female students again from 5-21 years of age multiple times a day.

3. Follow a feeding protocol and individual feeding of students.

4. Be able to move and push heavy wheels chairs (up to 500 lbs) around the building and outside.

5. Pull students on adapted bikes around the building daily.

6. Move students from one piece of equipment to another piece of equipment by lifting students.

7. Work with students who are severely cognitively involved and medically fragile.

8. Work with team member OT, PT, S/L, vision, hearing, and adapted PE.

9. The ability and willingness to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders including the Pioneer team, nurses and therapists.

Essential Job Functions :
1. Assists in the physical movement and lifting of students onto or into pieces of adaptive equipment.

2. Assist with the operation of the students' adaptive equipment.

3. Helps students with toilet needs.

4. Prepares for lunch period.

5. Feeds students multiple times daily.

6. Assists in transportation of the students by taking students out of the building every day and assisting all students accessing vehicles every day (getting on and getting off buses).

7. Keep records, when required.

8. Works with bulletin boards.

9. Assists on field trips.

10. Assists in the preparation, maintenance, scheduling, and operation of audio-visual equipment and materials.

11. Assists in keeping the students clean.

12. Prepares rooms for receiving students and end of day clean up.

13. Under teacher's direction, works with students on independent assignments.

14. Assists students and teachers in various day to day classroom tasks.

15. Participates in community based instruction.

16. Works cooperatively with staff.

Additional Job Information :
Physical Demands: This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.

2. Frequently required to work at fast pace
3. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
