In collaboration with the Welcome Center Coordinator and other Welcome Center staff, the Welcome Center School Counselor creates a positive, welcoming environment for students and families. The counselor assists students and families make a smooth transition into the LCPS school system by gathering the student's educational history and providing a clear and consistent evaluation of international transcripts, to make appropriate program and course placement recommendations for all secondary students who visit the Welcome Center. The Welcome Center School Counselor works collaboratively with other Welcome Center teams, as well as school-based counselors, EL teachers, and content supervisors in addressing the needs of newly registering students and their families.

* Conduct transcript evaluations of U.S. and international schools and assist in obtaining transcripts;
* Provide program/course/grade placement recommendations;
* Provide students and families with information on LCPS educational programs and services, and county programs and services;
* Practice and promote positive interaction between student, school, home and the Welcome Center, and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with LCPS staff, in particular school-based counselors, Adult Education, and content supervisors;
* Prepare and maintain required records and reports promptly and accurately;
* Check and review a variety of data, for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established standards and procedures;
* Comply with school and school board policies and regulations;
* Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Welcome Center Coordinator or other appropriate administrator


* Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved school guidance and counseling program
* Hold or is eligible for appropriate licensure; School Counselor PreK-12    
* Demonstrate successful experience in school guidance and counseling, high school experience preferred
* Bilingual, Spanish/English
* Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects simultaneously, follow complex oral and written directions, and work independently
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment, tact, and courtesy
* Proficient working with the Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and data record-keeping for LEP students
* Excellent public relations and telephone skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
