Job Summary
The Instructional Information Systems Specialist provides all aspects of support for Anchorage School District instructional applications and programs. This individual is an expert in their field and is responsible for providing application support and application based data analysis and training. The Instructional Information Systems Specialist works closely with other Information Technology and ASD staff to facilitate the automation of systems used to manage district and vendor applications. Work ensures that access, accounts, and data stay current and are appropriate based on Anchorage School Board policy and state and federal laws. The Instructional Information Systems Specialist produces and reviews application-specific key performance data and trains staff on the interpretation and implications of this data. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A bachelor's degree with major emphasis in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.Five years of progressively responsible experience in application support, data analysis, and customer service associated with technical systems.

The following are preferred:
  1. Experience with and in-depth knowledge of K-12 instructional technology and applications.Familiarity with Informational Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts and practices.The ability to coordinate multiple issues simultaneously, with demonstrated exceptional capacity for taking ownership of issues through to resolution and a proven track record of meeting objectives.Experience with applications used within ASD Virtual, including APEX Learning, Canvas, eDynamics, Edmentum, or Calvert Learning.Experience supporting educators in an online learning environment.Experience supporting students and parents in an online learning environment.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Performs as an application support expert to administrators, teachers, and support personnel.Oversees the documentation, troubleshooting, and training of ASD-owned applications.Oversees, develops, and approves training manuals and aids for applications.Learns about and becomes proficient in assigned applications.Collaborates and coordinates with software vendors, ASD application programmers, and subject matter experts on the management of instructional and assessment software.Collaborates with ASD application programmers, vendors, and users to automate the management of application data, account provisioning, and transience.Trains additional support staff to help with application support peak times.Provides incident management, training requests, and problem solving through district service applications.Supports the implementation of methods for continual service improvement and improving critical success factors.Advises staff on policy, procedures, and priorities.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
