POSITION SUMMARY :

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor for Elementary Reading/English Language Arts in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction: Academic Programs, the Early Literacy Support Team/Reading Recovery Teachers will combine teaching Reading Recovery lessons to children in assigned elementary schools with providing system-wide early literacy expertise to teachers and other staff. Team members will be assigned to schools based on a needs assessment. Teachers are required to travel to one or more school sites daily.

Salary Range: $ 49,468 - $1 10,708

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Teach four (4) Reading Recovery lessons daily in assigned school;
  • Comply with all Reading Recovery certification requirements as stated in the Standards and Guidelines of Reading Recovery in the United States;
  • Participate daily as part of the PGCPS early literacy support team. The primary duties of the team will be to support teachers in balanced literacy instruction in the following ways:
  • Teach modules of balanced literacy workshops to K-2 teachers throughout PGCPS who have not taken the workshops previously;
  • Coach, debrief, demonstrate daily, and provide on-site assistance to teachers in implementing balanced literacy techniques;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the RELA curriculum by planning lessons with the teacher;
  • Train teachers on administering and analyzing early literacy assessments, help teachers apply the data to instruction, and analyze lessons taught; and
  • Analyze and interpret PMAPP data in order to assist teachers with their instruction.
  • Work under the direction of the elementary reading office to create curriculum, analyze data, and develop, support, and monitor best practices in literacy;
  • Participate in ongoing professional development on coaching and classroom applications of early literacy practices;
  • Provide appropriate ongoing documentation of completion of job responsibilities;
  • Perform related work as required and electronically submit required forms and communications; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Broad knowledge of computer skills, to include but not limited to: Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :

    Bachelor's Degree required (Master's Degree preferred); minimum of five years of elementary classroom experience and successful Reading Recovery teaching experience.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Holds or is eligible for a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate in reading (Advanced Professional Certificate preferred).

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
