The Role:
The MLK and King Open School, in partnership with the Health, Wellness, and Physical Education department, seeks a Physical Education Teacher (JK-5) for the 20-21 School Year. Reporting directly to the Coordinator of Health and Physical Education and building principal, the Physical Education Teacher holds responsibility for teaching Physical Education according to the SHAPE America National Standards, Massachusetts Health Curriculum Framework, and the CPS Physical Education curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and establish the integration of physical education with other curriculum disciplines.
• Build school-wide relationships with students, staff and parents by participating on appropriate committees and with school-based student support teams, and by engaging students in various programs.
• Utilize accepted PE Department strategies and techniques which have been developed as a framework for enhancing life skills development and encouraging meaningful dialogue between students, teachers and parents.
• Demonstrate a willingness to increase certifications as needed by the PE department.
• Be responsible for all reports, data collection, inventory and purchasing for the MLK School.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Physical Teacher you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Experience and/or education in: elementary physical education, swim development, bicycle safety and ballroom dancing.
• Successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
• First Aid/CPR/WSI certification preferred.
• Required Massachusetts Certification: Prek-8 Physical Education.
• A love for children and desire to work with elementary aged students.
