Department Description:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist - Elementary Mathematics is responsible for assisting assigned schools in facilitating the development, monitoring, implementation, and assessment of the Elementary Mathematics Program.

Brief Description:

This is an ASASP Unit II Table F Grade 2 Position

Salary Range: $96,538 - $137,642

CLOSING DATE: September 30, 2020

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Provides support to designated teachers/schools in the area of elementary mathematics curriculum, instruction and classroom management;
  • Provides support for Curriculum and Instruction through writing revisions to the curriculum and supporting curricular resources that reflect the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for mathematics;
  • Reviews county data for assigned schools and collaborates with administrators, mathematics contact persons and staff;
  • Performs workshops on curricular issues, specific teaching strategies and best mathematics teaching practices;
  • Assists with the development, monitoring and procurement of resources that align to the mathematics curriculum;
  • Researches and reviews products to support the Elementary Mathematics Program;
  • Serves as a liaison to Area and Central Offices with respect to Mathematics;
  • Oversees projects as designated by the supervisor;
  • Assists principal and school improvement resource teacher in facilitating the development, monitoring, implementation, and assessment of the School Improvement Program;
  • Plans, conducts, and provides follow-up for staff development activities focused on development, implementation, management, and monitoring of the school improvement plan;
  • Conducts demonstration lessons and may perform teacher observations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Thorough understanding of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics grades K-5;
  • Experience with writing curriculum framework guides for mathematics or integrating curriculum desired;
  • Thorough knowledge of mathematics pedagogy and mathematics current best practices preferred;
  • Experience in leading staff development initiatives;
  • Thorough knowledge of the school system's curriculum, including its Scope and Sequence documents;
  • Thorough knowledge of the school improvement planning process;
  • Knowledge of school schedules which maximize the use of instructional time;
  • Ability to analyze student performance and participation data for instructional implication;
  • Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word; and
  • Demonstrated skill in effective human relations and in oral and written communications.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years successful experience teaching mathematics at the elementary level required.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Advanced Professional Certificate in Elementary Education and/or related field; Administration I Certificate required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
