Additional Information: This is a temporary position for the 2020-2021 school year only. Last day of assignment is scheduled for August 31, 2021

This position will support the new Tacoma Online program. Tacoma Online is an all-inclusive program that provides core content and elective courses. Students have access to their courses anytime, from anywhere, and can work at a pace that supports them. Learning occurs through live and recorded lessons delivered completely online - delivered by Tacoma teachers. Tacoma Online serves kindergarten through 12th grade learners and features an emphasis on personalized learning experiences that align to each student's growth along a path toward graduation.  Previous experience with online learning platforms or support of staff in online environment is preferred.

Summary:
This position establishes and maintains student attendance records, resolves attendance matters with students, parents and outside agencies; and handles a variety of other student attendance duties. The position also performs various duties to facilitate the operation of the school office.

Responsibilities:
1. Creates and updates attendance records for each student; enters or oversees entry of daily attendance information on computer; produces daily bulletin of absentees and distributes it to staff as requested.
2. Answers questions of parents or staff regarding location of students during the day for attendance status.
3. Calls students' homes each day regarding absences.
4. Reports student absences, attendance or enrollment to outside agencies as required.
5. Provides information to parents and staff regarding each student's attendance record upon request.
6. Completes reports regarding student counts for interested parties; distributes, collects and screens information for federal cards.
7. Handles student requests during the day for reentry or early dismissal; issues early dismissals for discipline reasons as requested; issues excused or unexcused reentries; reviews excuses for absence; answers phone calls during the day regarding attendance status.
8. Maintains student attendance files that include excuses from home, discipline forms and letters sent home to parents; sends letter to parents as necessary.
9. Coordinates homework assignments for absent students.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

1. Cares for ill or injured students in the absence of school nurse and volunteers as needed; makes arrangements to transport student as necessary.
2. Supervises students placed in office for discipline or detention.
3. Trains and oversees work of student office assistants as assigned.
4. May act as receptionist for the office; screens phone calls and takes messages for staff; provides information.
5. May complete a variety of secretarial duties for the office as requested, such as maintaining discipline records; issuing passes; enrolling and withdrawing students; mailing report cards; typing letters and reports and ordering supplies; and related administrative support tasks.
6. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent and one year of clerical experience or office skills training, including record keeping; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures.
Skill in keyboarding; computer data entry skills.
Ability to operate a personal computer with word processing software applications.
Ability to obtain, clarify and exchange information.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socioeconomic setting.
