The Lead Teacher is a highly qualified, state certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an on-line environment. Teachers provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. Additionally, the Lead Teacher acts as a member of the school leadership team, and mentoring teachers and supporting virtual academy (VA) efforts to improve student performance.

  • Case Manager for IEPs of speech only students
  • Development of IEP using e-IEP Pro
  • Conduct meetings as needed
  • Manage files
  • Mentoring/training of special education teachers
    • Office set up
    • Records set up
    • e-IEP Pro training
    • File set up
  • Management of related service providers
    • Obtain progress notes monthly from each provider
    • Assign students to various providers
  • Develop and implement all special education procedures
  • Recruit, train, and supervise special education teachers
  • Develop and disseminate “best practices” for special education in a virtual setting
  • Train all teachers in special education procedures, focusing on identification
  • Implement the use of adaptive technology to meet the needs of our students
  • Review contracts with special education providers
  • Oversee special education reporting
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all IEP’s
  • Alert the Head of School of all changes in local, state, and/or federal special education practices and laws
  • Ensure that special education students are an integrated part of WYVA
  • Work through the Head of School with the local district’s attorney on legal and compliance issues
  • Travel, as required, to support students and districts in implementation of the special education program
  • Manage the special education budget

  • Assists with the development and implementation all policies and procedures related to teaching and learning;
  • Helps develop and implement a data driven program design that has synergy with K12 curriculum;
  • Collaborates with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students;
  • Assists with the assurance that their direct reports meet all the standards and expectations outlined;
  • Assists with the promotion of professional development of teachers through the implementation of Data Driven Instruction;
  • Assists with the development and dissemination of “best practices” in the virtual school setting;
  • Plans/implements data driven professional learning activities;
  • Work collaboratively with others to achieve school performance goals;
  • Serves as a liaison between parents and teachers along with the school administrative team;
  • Presents and leads various meeting school department/team meetings;
  • Travels to, participates and presents in regular staff meetings and professional development sessions;
  • Maintains records regarding students in accordance with school policy and state requirements; prepares reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of teaching experience
  • Ability to clear required background check.

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate state teaching certification.

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in a charter school environment preferred
    Great organizational and time management skills
    • Flexible schedule
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
    • Experience using search engines (Internet) for research projects
    • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database preferred
    • Strong communication skills with regular educators and parents
    • Ability to travel as needed to support students and districts in implementation of the special education program
