JOB GOAL
Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with routine tasks and organizing, implementing, and supporting an instructional and academic program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Assist teacher with facilitating a developmentally appropriate research-based curriculum, which is aligned to state standards and federal child outcomes and supports the development of school readiness skills.
  2. Support teacher with coordinating and planning organized activities, schedules, lesson plans, and high-quality learning experiences responsive to each child's individual patter on development and learning.
  3. Aid in observing, collecting, and reporting data such as attendance and student academic development as required by federal, state and district requirements.
  4. Under teacher supervision, integrate assessment data in individual and group planning, and conduct interventions and make referrals for evaluations as needed.
  5. Escort, supervise, and facilitate students to various settings throughout the school building, including but not limited to, cafeteria, recess, and other educational classrooms including arrival and dismissal times.
  6. Facilitate appropriate social interactions amongst students by prompting, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate social behaviors in small group or classroom settings.
  7. Consult with teachers or other professionals utilizing appropriate channels by engaging in positive solution finding steps to resolve areas of concern.
  8. Collaborate and support classroom teacher in communicating regularly with parents and teachers to identify barriers preventing student achievement and establish plans to help ensure student engagement and success.
  9. Participate in staff meetings and staff development activities, as scheduled.
  10. Maintain records and information concerning students confidential and use information only for the purposes for which it was accumulated.
  11. Participate and assist teacher in school functions, field trips and extracurricular activities as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of curriculum planning, implementation, and resources
  • Possess strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
Education, Training & Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • One year of working with elementary aged children
OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
