Job Summary
This position reports to, and is evaluated by the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning, or their designee. The Teacher Expert – Instructional Support collaborates with teachers, principals and district administrators to support professional learning of employees on the District's board adopted curriculums, instructional practices, programs, and student assessment systems, and helps facilitate data-based decision making within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). To ensure coordination with District vision, mission, and goals, this position implements strategies to achieve aligned objectives and assists in the development of monitoring efforts to ensure effective implementation.
This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of workdays is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online at www.asdk12.org/laborrelations. Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits. However, this position may have a flexible work calendar which may include duty days over the summer, winter or spring breaks, with equivalent time off during the regular school year as mutually agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate, or ability to acquire by start date,Three (3) or more years of teaching experience, documenting student growth and proficiency.Evidence of content knowledge shown by:
    1. a posted degree in the content area of this position; ora posted minor in the content area of this position; orpassing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; oran endorsement in the content area of this position

The following are preferred:
  1. Master's degree.Demonstrated effectiveness and experience working as an instructional coach, or similar teacher leadership role.Experience working in a response to instruction (RTI) or multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) system.Experience supporting a comprehensive assessment system (e.g., universal screening, progress monitoring, formative classroom assessment, diagnostic assessment).Experience developing and facilitating professional learning activities for adult learners.Demonstrated technology usage and integration skills.


Essential Job Functions
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the essential functions of this position. The successful candidate:
  1. Prepares for and delivers professional development to teachers and administrators on curriculum and research-based instructional practices.Provides support to and professional development for teachers and administrators on the administration of district assessments and data-based decision making aligned with state and district standards within a MTSS framework.Meets with instructional coaches to provide professional development on academic priority plans, effective instruction, data-based decision making, and coaching practices within a MTSS framework.Applies content knowledge and collaborates with instructional supports such as ELL and Special Education, to align district projects and curriculum initiatives.Understands and integrates culturally responsive and trauma informed practices to meet the learning needs of our diverse population.Articulates and provides guidance on how to bridge research to the classroom for teachers and administrators.Demonstrates strong communication skills and possesses an understanding of how to build relationships to foster strong collaboration among all stakeholders.Participates in meetings and training sessions as scheduled.Demonstrates technology skills that will support professional learning (e.g., webinars, Google Drive , Canvas ).

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
