The Assistant Principal directs and coordinates educational and administrative activities by performing the following duties personally or through collaborating with the Principal and Director of Academics.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures conformance of educational programs to state and local school board standards through evaluation, development and coordination activities; As needed, researches and implements non-K12 curriculum resources that meet state standards;
  • Helps articulate the school’s mission and vision with the aim of ensuring all stakeholders have a common understanding and are positioned to work cooperatively in order to achieve desired results; Utilizes/relies heavily upon communication technologies and practices that most effectively support a predominantly virtual / remote work environment;
  • Ensures that the school is meeting the needs of students while complying with local, state, and federal laws regarding special education and other categorical programs;
  • Develops and oversees implementation of the school’s student achievement plan and works with the academic team to implement the plan;
  • Assists grade level principal in daily duties required to keep the department functioning and compliant. These duties may include creation of schedules, management of student data, data analysis, teacher observation, feedback and management of personnel;
  • Assists with parent and student concerns and issues;
  • Assists in the coordinating and implementing of grade level meetings;
  • Assists principals in evaluations and observations per state requirements;
  • Attends all required training by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has regular supervisory responsibilities that include supervision of classroom teachers. The selected candidate will serve as supervisor of the school during the absence of the Principal.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree AND
  • Five (5) years of educational experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Meets all criteria for employment in a PA public school, including satisfactory PA child abuse, PA criminal record, and FBI background check reports

Desired Qualifications
  • K-12 Principal Certification
  • Previous experience as an online educator
  • Previous administrative experience

Minimum Required Skill Set
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced atmosphere
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain positive, customer-oriented relations and rapport, including appropriate telephone etiquette and decorum
  • Ability to follow instructions and make decisions with little supervision
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel files, personnel decisions, and questions and concerns that arise from parents or staff about schools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Familiarity with Google applications desired. Familiarity with preparing reports from spreadsheets and databases desired.

  • This is an office-based position. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).

  1. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  3. Ability to physically lift up to 10 pounds.
  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret workplace documents, technical procedures, research studies, and governmental regulations.
  5. Ability to write reports with clarity.
  6. Ability to interface diplomatically with all members of the school community - administrators, teachers, parents, students, Board members, support staff, colleagues, and outside professional contacts.
  7. Ability to coordinate and use technology for a variety of workplace purposes and communications.
  8. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
