Summary:

The BCBA will provide direct and consultative services to educational professionals and students in school settings. They will conduct behavioral assessments, interpret those assessments for educational team members and develop behavior support plans. They will train and support educational team members to implement behavior support plans and will provide professional development to school site staff, para-educators, and parents/guardians in the use of evidence-based intervention procedures within the scope of behavior analytic practice as defined by the BACB Tasklists and Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
  • Provides consultation, intervention, modeling and support to staff regarding behavior management, effective education and assessment of behavioral needs of students with and without disabilities.
  • Identifies and demonstrates teaching strategies that build student skills in targeted areas.
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments for students with complex and/or severe behaviors in accordance with MTSS, federal and state laws and regulations
  • Designs, monitors and revises behavior programs for students.
  • Oversees the implementation of behavior programs by others.
  • Directly observes staff implementing behavior programs and provides feedback as needed.
  • Works cooperatively with administrators, school psychologists, social workers and special education teachers in developing FBA/BIP paperwork.
  • Develops crisis intervention plan when needed.
  • Consults with members the IEP, 504, and MTSS teams, district staff and other related team members, individually, at team meetings, or in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate student information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs for individual students.
  • Facilitates team consultation meetings with school staff.
  • Participate in the referral, re-evaluation and/or IEP process for students, when needed.
  • Provides consultation to parents re: child development, behavior management techniques.
  • Develops materials, training and provides resources for and provides professional learning to school staff and parents/guardians in evidence-based methodologies related to addressing the needs of students with behavior difficulties.
  • Conducts professional development and training in behavior management, progress monitoring, data collection techniques, social skills or other targeted needs.
  • Performs oher duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

Minimum
  • Master's Degree Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, School Counselor, School Social Worker certification or other related field.
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Desirable
  • Expertise and experience working in public schools
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)
  • Experience with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities and mental health disorders
  • Knowledge and ability to implement crisis prevention intervention, CPI is preferred

Licensing/Certifications Requirements:

DPI licensure

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Knowledge of public-school law, ethics and standards of practice for supporting student with behavioral difficulties
  • Knowledge of the MTSS framework and the Whole Child Model for providing educational supports for students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the school environment.
  • Ability to use data to formulate recommendations and to assist in the decision-making process for students.
  • Ability to be self-directed, responsible and complete work within prescribed timelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all school stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work often requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. Will regularly require physical strength and ability to exert physical effort as needed for crisis intervention or handling objects over 30 pounds. May occasionally require work with risk for potential job-related injury, such as physical confrontations.
