The Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW)- Student Health Services team provides programming and services designed to ensure students access the health services they need when they need them; connects students with health systems to deliver the right care to the right child at the right time and in the right setting. The Office of Student Health and Wellness, licensed healthcare partners, and schools provide services to more than 200,000 students each year to reduce health-related barriers to learning.

The Project Manager will manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of one or more programs/services related to school-based / school-linked health care. A specialization focusing in one or more of the following areas will be developed based upon student needs, departmental strategy, the selected candidate's knowledge/skill/abilities and the District's vision.

1) Dental/oral health;

2) Hearing health;

3) Primary health; and

4) Vision/optical health

The Student Health Project Manager will contribute to the success of Chicago's students by effectively accomplishing the following:

  • Working with the OSHW- Student Health Services team to lead the development, implementation and evaluation of healthcare delivery systems within the school setting

  • Strengthening internal relationships within the Office of Student Health and Wellness to partner with specialists in the areas of data surveillance, epidemiology, health education, health insurance including Medicaid, supplemental nutrition assistance programs (SNAP), etc.

  • Providing project management of one or more Healthy CPS initiatives including the 1) School-based Dental Exam Program; 2) School-based Vision and Hearing Screening & Referral Services; 3) School-based Vision Exam Program; 4) School-based/School-linked health services.

  • Strengthening external relationships with various departments within the Chicago Public Schools including, but not limited to, early childhood, safety and security, social emotional learning, special education, etc.

  • Partnering with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Chicago Department of Public Health, etc. to improve the public health system related to the school setting.

  • Developing and maintaining external relationships with licensed dentists, optometrists, and healthcare providers; professional associations; community health organizations, etc. including School-based Health Centers and School-linked Mobile Care providers.

  • Advising OHW leadership on emerging issues and laws, regulatory changes, and requirements related to the candidate's area of specialization

  • Developing draft reports for Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and other government entities related to the assigned programs/services for the supervisor's review

  • Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of assigned programs/services and support measures and develop procedures and processes in response to evaluation outcomes



Type of Education Required:

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Candidates with a background in dental hygiene, education, health administration, nursing, public health, social work are encouraged to apply. Candidates earning specialized certificates or licensure are encouraged to apply (i.e. dental hygienist, health education specialist, medical case management, optician, vision & hearing screening, etc.)

Type of Experience Required:

  • Strong problem solving skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive information;

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with emphasis on education and training for a wide audience;

  • A high degree of initiative in approaching responsibilities and implementing institutional plans and goals; and

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity; ability to build relationships, establish collaborative partnerships, and work with a wide range of constituencies with diplomacy and tact; demonstrated ability to lead groups to consensus.

  • Strong computer skills and proficiencies with a variety of applications including online reporting system and case management tracking.

  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or other language skill preferred.

Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with CPS, employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
