Haggerty School:
Our school motto, "Everyone is Different, Everyone Belongs" is the foundation of our commitment to diversity and inclusion. We believe that all students can achieve at high levels and that, in order to do so, students and families from historically marginalized groups need more. The Haggerty Staff is actively engaged in racial equity work, including conversations about the impact of racism, implicit bias, and white privilege on our individual and collective work. We are a "work in progress" as we look to make change, and we are seeking candidates who will join us willingly in this crucial endeavor for the success of all students.

At Haggerty, we believe that learning unfolds when we provide conditions in which children can explore, inquire, and shape their own understandings. The school values the culture and beliefs that each child brings to the classroom, and teachers believe that children must engage with their world in order to make sense of it and build their knowledge. Each student is expected to take responsibility for his/her own learning, while collaborating, supporting, and respecting others.

The Opportunity:
The Haggerty School is seeking an innovative and collaborative teacher who fosters a safe and inclusive classroom environment. We are eager to identify an individual who is able to collaborate effectively with staff, sees themselves as a learner, and can balance both the responsibility as well as the joy of working in a PreK-5 school. The successful candidate will possess a strong conceptual understanding of literacy, social studies, mathematics and science instruction at the elementary level and an unwavering belief in the power of school communities to make a difference in the lives of children. The Haggerty School serves children and families from a diverse range of backgrounds. We value diversity, inclusion and equity and are eager to field applications from candidates who represent diverse racial, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

The Haggerty School supports teachers' professional growth through grade-level professional learning communities, peer observations, team collaboration and instructional planning. The individual hired for this position will be evaluated following the professional standards articulated in the Massachusetts Teacher Rubric.

As the incoming Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
  • Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Elementary Education (1-6) required; Additional license/certification in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities) preferred.
  • Ability to foster positive academic growth through the planning and delivery of high-quality, standards-based, clear instruction to students representing a diverse range of learning needs (including English learners and students with disabilities);
  • Previous and successful experience working in a diverse school environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally-responsive practices that include students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Ability to design, administer and analyze a variety of informal and formal assessments to inform instructional next steps and create small groups for targeted instruction;
  • Ability to manage a safe and effective classroom environment through explicit routines and instructional practices that establish high expectations and encourage children to manage their own learning; Training in Studying Skillful Teacher, Critical Friendship/Facilitative Leadership, PBIS and Responsive Classroom strongly preferred .
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teaching colleagues, specialists, instructional coaches, administrators and parents to foster positive social, emotional and academic development for children;
  • Demonstrated interest in actively pursuing ongoing professional learning opportunities, including walk throughs and peer observations in a collegial environment to improve quality of practice and expertise; and
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
