The Promise Academy Afterschool program operates as an extension of Promise Academy day school. The program provides 500+ students in grades K-12 a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that fosters self-confidence, personal and social development. Students are exposed to a variety of fun-filled project-based learning, developmental and high-caliber enrichment activities, which include arts enrichment (e.g., performing, culinary and visual arts), tutoring, homework help, and academic intervention support, as well as health/wellness and physical fitness education. Additionally, students are engaged in leadership development activities, including student government, character education and conflict resolution, and participate in several team sports and recreation activities, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

We are seeking part-time High School Boys Basketball Head Coach. The ideal candidate will develop a high-quality high school basketball program and provide effective leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and execute a robust and detailed high school boys' basketball curriculum that demonstrates a strong knowledge of the sport
  • Create a basketball program that will include daily conditioning, fundamental drills, game film review and a strategic playbook
  • Develop and implement appropriate practice plans 5-6 days per week
  • Organize off-season trainings, practices, and tournaments
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and playing field
  • Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in basketball activity and schoolwork
  • Partner with administration and teachers to ensure scholar-athletes are in full compliance with the Athletic Department Code of Conduct
  • Monitor, record and file important documents pertaining to the students on the team (waiver form, permission form, health form, etc.)
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director
  • Develop positive relationships with students that promote wellness, social-emotional growth, respect and increased self-esteem
  • Act as a positive role model for students
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Experience working with youth and adolescent population
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of coaching experience
  • Must have strong knowledge and keen understanding of basketball
  • Ensure basketball curriculum is structured and has clear learning goals
  • Solid understanding of youth basketball rules and safety guidelines
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA Clearinghouse and Amateur Athletic Union rules and regulations
  • Must be able to travel to away games or events
  • Must have strong leadership and organizational skills with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible and solutions-oriented" mindset is necessary for this role
  • Ability to effectively engage and motivate students
  • Must be able to work 3pm to 7pm, Monday - Friday, and Saturdays 11 am to 1 pm
