  • JOB TITLE: Substitute Bus Driver
    WORK YEAR: As needed
    WORK STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from schools and in various other district activities. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Performs pre and post trip safety inspections, updates route maps and schedules.
    2. Drives specified routes and transports students, discharges students at authorized stops only.
    3. Instructs passengers on safety procedures and fire drills.
    4. Maintains order and discipline on the bus, reports major disciplinary problems to supervisor.
    5. Drives for field trips, includes mountain trips.
    6. Provides back up for transportation office secretarial staff as needed.
    7. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Education, Experience or Formal Training:

    -High school graduate
    -Bus driver experience not required - training provided to the right candidate
    -Must be 21 years of age

    Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

    -Defensive driving
    -Some knowledge of special needs students
    -Mountain driving
    -Knowledge of restraints and handicapped passenger requirements
    -First Aid
    -General office equipment
    -Effective communication

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION:
    Must have (or be able to obtain) CDL Class B with a P and S endorsement. District willing to train the right individual. Current DOT Physical required.

    ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
    Some dust and dirt, fumes and odors, noise, temperature extremes, hazardous situations. The person in this position constantly works in outdoor weather conditions.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires constant sitting, walking, stooping, climbing and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment. The person in this position frequently communicates and must be able to talk, hear and see.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    CLEARANCES:
    Must clear background check through Colorado Department of Human Services in addition to an online Records check and FBI Fingerprint check through Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

    SALARY:
    Salary placement on Class 1 of the Transportation Personnel Salary Schedule and is $19.92/hour.
