About the position

Whittle School & Studios seeks a long-term substitute Pre-School Lead English teacher for our Early Learning Center at our Washington, DC campus. The ELC Lead English Language Faculty partners with the Lead Chinese Language Faculty to plan and implement the dual language immersive Reggio inspired Early Learning Program for a designated cohort of students. The position runs from late September 2020 through December 2020 in a full-time capacity. Currently we are engaging in distance learning so the position will begin remotely and we anticipate a transition to on-site instruction later in the academic year. We seek to hire qualified individuals with a deep respect for children and strong classroom management skills. Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor's degree and have relevant experience working with children. The hours of this position are generally 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As lead ELC faculty member, in partnership with your co-teacher, the lead teacher is responsible for the following:
  • Planning and implementing Reggio inspired project-based learning
  • Implementing the e nvironment as 3 rd teacher
  • Planning and implementing e mergent curriculum
  • Reading, math and writing workshops (primarily kindergarten and first grade )
  • O ngoing observation, documentation and assessment
  • Personalizing learning
  • D eep parent partnering
  • Team collaboration
  • Being a continuous learn er and t eacher as researcher

Requirements
  • BA Degree required, MA Degree preferred with f ocus in early childhood or elementary education preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience working with early learners (pre-K and/or K)
  • Experience with Reggio approach, Project Based Learning, Responsive Classroom, immersive language learning and co-teaching preferred
