Elementary Two Way Immersion Teacher, One Year Appointment, 3 Positions

Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long-term preparation of students for the global economy. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations in which each has equal status spurs motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation.

The Opportunity :
The teacher will provide students with instruction in Spanish and English in a self-contained classroom. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with grade level, cluster and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education. The successful candidate must plan and implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population. He/she will have experience planning, implementing and adapting ongoing curriculum, which is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, as well as the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for second grade. He/she will work collaboratively with parents and guardians to engage them in classroom activities and school-wide events.

Your Skill Set :
As the incoming Two Way Immersion Teacher you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, including coursework in first and second language acquisition.
  • High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation of Elementary students, their needs, and interests.
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity and experience with a variety of online platforms.
  • Creativity and passion for dual language and anti-racist teaching.
  • Required Massachusetts Certification: Foreign Language Certification 1-6 (Spanish), Elementary K-6 or Early Childhood K-2, with appropriate courses in the instruction of young children.
