Job Description - English Coordinator - Whittle Shenzhen
Position Overview

The English Coordinator (EC) in G1-3 / G4-6 / G7-9 (section) will provide management support to the English Language and Literacy (ELL) Department Head (HOD), ensuring that the Whittle ELL curriculum is put into practice. The EC will assist with the development and implementation of the ELL curriculum, aiming to ensure that the ELL Department achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its endeavors and activities. The role involves assisting the HOD with the line management, observation, and training of teachers within each section, to ensure that teachers have the understanding and capacity to enable each student to make progress with their English language and literacy development. The position requires a high level of teaching experience within second language institutions and environments, in addition to administrative competency, good electronic housekeeping, fluency in the use of spreadsheets and e-learning environments, knowledge of reporting, ability to analyse data, and the capacity to help put in place improved processes of gathering feedback from staff and students.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Line management of teachers in your section in matters pertaining to the ELL curriculum
  • Work with the HOD to adapt and improve the ELL curriculum in your section
  • Work with the HOD to support teachers/associate teachers/teaching assistants/interns in effectively implementing the ELL curriculum through observation and feedback on instructional/classroom materials and delivery, classroom environment, time management, and student engagement
  • Ensuring that teachers in your section have timely information on schedules, curriculum updates, assessment requirements, and reporting, and that relevant deadlines are being met
  • Ensuring that instructional/classroom materials (electronic or other) are organized and available for teachers and students, and that there is consistent use of these materials throughout your section (communicating with other section ECs to maintain consistency between sections)
  • Ensuring that the recording of grades during the semester and end-of-term assessments (including standardisation and marking) are organized and completed (communicating with other section ECs to maintain consistency between sections), and that student report requirements are met on time by teachers in your section
  • Holding biweekly meetings with teachers for your section and recording the minutes of those meetings, and attending weekly meetings with the HOD and other ECs
  • Liaising with teachers in your section regarding student performance and assisting with any internal issues that arise from this, including decisions on student levels and movement between levels
  • Working with Grade Heads and the HOD to ensure that classes in your section are covered in the event of absence, illness, or lateness
  • Assisting the HOD with the development of ELL Department policies and procedures which will form part of the ELL Department Handbook
  • Assisting the HOD in reviewing and recommending educational resources and advising on the effective use of existing curriculum resources within their section, including ensuring compliance with EdB requirements
