General Information

Willamette Education Service District is accepting applications for a full-time (40 hours per week) Communications Specialist position. The Communications Specialist works closely with the Director of Communications and Public Engagement, and is a member of the Willamette ESD Communications Team.

The successful candidate will enjoy being part of a team that takes a collaborative approach to creating various communications that are engaging, clear and concise. The candidate must match a high standard of institutional design and pragmatic know-how with the ability to triage and work efficiently. Proven experience managing multiple projects with diverse working groups and simultaneous deadlines is crucial. The candidate must maintain a consistent level of quality, have a strong sense of writing, design and photography, and is organized and detail-oriented.

Successful candidate will follow a 240-day calendar and the position will be based at the Willamette ESD Marion Center in Salem, OR. Position will begin as soon as possible after the selection process has concluded.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partners with the strategic communications director and others
  • Develops and implements effective digital strategies, tactics and tools to advance the agency mission
  • Manages content and outreach for various digital properties, including website and social media platforms
  • Manages digital communications content and outreach to multiple audiences
  • Ensures the brand image and tone are conveyed consistently in communication materials and campaigns
  • Drafts professional newsletters, publications, reports, shared services communications, and social media
  • Designs and develops regular email newsletters
  • Conceptualizes and brings to fruition new product and design ideas
  • Creates concepts and layouts with eye-catching graphics for web & print
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Works closely and collaboratively with all staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in communications, journalism, digital arts, or graphic design
  • 3+ years of experience with social media creation and management
  • 3+ years of experience with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • 3+ years of Professional Graphic Design Experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Organized with a passion for detail and style
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience working with HTML and CSS
  • Excel at effectively managing multiple priorities and is self-motivated
  • Possess reliable transportation
  • Nationwide criminal history check and fingerprinting at employee's expense are required

Salary and Benefits *
  • This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) Classified position represented by the Oregon School Employees Association.
  • Placement on the Willamette ESD Classified Salary Schedule Range 21, Step 1-6; ($26.05-$33.24 per hour) will be commensurate with applicant's qualifications, relevant training and experience.
  • Willamette ESD will support payment for health, dental and vision insurance premiums for qualified employees. Employer-paid PERS, holidays, sick leave, and personal days are also provided to qualified employees.

      • Employees may opt to donate one day of sick leave to become a member of the Sick Leave Bank.
      • Members may draw up to 25 days of sick leave if catastrophic illness or injury leaves the employee without paid leave time to cover their absence from work.
