Job Description:

The Interventionist provides targeted, strategy-based instruction that facilitates student success through planning, teaching, assessing, and adjusting learning opportunities that meet student needs in alignment with the ACPS Strategic Plan and each school's VCSIP. This position will develop collegial relationships that foster a positive learning environment with students, teachers, and administrators in the service of improved student achievement. This person will participate in division level professional development in order to learn expectations for the purpose of alignment of division initiatives. Additionally, the Interventionist will learn and implement the most effective research-based pedagogical and content strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in Education preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or eligibility to obtain one.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in education for diverse learners, across races and ethnicities, including English Learners, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, implementing the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or similar systems of student support.
  • Knowledge and experience administering diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments to target specific skills and concepts.
  • Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Experience with research-proven interventions focused specifically on individual student needs.
  • Experience with progress monitoring, data analysis, and documentation of student progress in order to inform instruction.
  • Ability to reflect on instruction and student progress in order to plan for instructional adjustments.
  • Maintain collegial working relationships and strong interpersonal skills with all stakeholders.


Essential Functions:

Plan:
  • Reviews and evaluates student achievement information in order to place students in appropriate academic intervention and support services.
  • Participates in division and school site-based professional development related to content.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings outside of designated schedule.
  • Serves on the building level MTSS team. Participates in MTSS meetings and data analysis meetings.
  • Collaborates with teachers to identify students' strengths and challenges and matches these skills with appropriate strategies and resources.
  • Designs interventions and writes lesson plans detailing methods and materials that are aligned with state academic standards, division curriculum, and areas of focus.

Teach:
  • Utilizes instructional strategies and research-based intervention curriculum resources to meet the learning needs of identified students for Tier II and Tier III.
  • Facilitates effective instruction that meets the individual needs of diverse learners by: consulting with staff on individualized instruction, managing group behavior, monitoring student progress, evaluating group data, and adjusting intervention and instructional strategies to make content accessible to every student in the group.
  • Teaches groups as scheduled.
  • Implements approved intervention programs according to program guidelines.
  • Teach content that is aligned with ACPS expectations and Tier I instruction.

Assess:
  • Progress monitors using assessment tools for students identified as needing Tier II or Tier III interventions.
  • Analyze and interpret assessment data to adjust future instruction.
  • Collects and maintains current data related to student support and in accordance with school or division policies.

Adjust:
  • Consults frequently with school leaders and classroom teachers on revised instructional planning based on analysis of progress monitoring data to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Reflects on systematic and valid data to measure effectiveness of instructional delivery in order to evaluate the impact on student achievement.


Clearances:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
