Helena School District # 1 has openings for Temporary Para Proctors (Teacher Assistants). Assist instructional personnel in general daily onsite classroom activities. This position supervises students in the classroom setting and assist the remote teacher. This position will follow the teacher instructional day Monday through Friday. Responsible to represent the school building and district in a most positive way to students, staff, parents, and the school community.

Entry level pay range is $13.00 to $15.95 per hour depending education level and applicable experience as determined by the District. A pro-rated comprehensive benefit package is provided including coverage during the summer break .

Position Description

Job Title: Para Educator Proctor
Department: Educational Services
Reports To: Building Administrator

SUMMARY : Assist instructional personnel in general daily onsite classroom activities. This position supervises students in the classroom setting and assist the remote teacher. This position will follow the teacher instructional day Monday through Friday. Responsible to represent the school building and district in a most positive way to students, staff, parents, and the school community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.
Supervises students in the classroom.
Set up technology for remote teacher and ensure teacher and students can exchange thoughts, ideas and conversation.
Collect assignments and written work as well as support student activities as directed by the remote teacher.
Pass out work, manipulatives and instructional materials.
Assists in small group pupil instruction and provides limited instructional assistance to individual students at teachers' request.
Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
Assists teacher with attendance.
Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
Operates standard school equipment such as laptop, audiovisual equipment, cameras, speakers and functional district learning devices and software.

May escort children to and from various rooms or assist the specialists providing services.
Other duties as assigned.

Other essential duties and responsibilities depending upon assignment:
Check books in and out on the computer.
Shelve library materials and assist with inventory.
Processes student attendance.
Takes messages, routes calls.
Provides appropriate first aid.
Administers medications according to policy and regulations.
Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Will supervise students when the teacher and/or librarian are not present.

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, onsite and in person in the designated building(s) as directed by the District. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three-months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District. Must have good technical information technology skills including the ability to log into multiple programs, facilitate connectivity with remote teacher and leverage technology to assist students in the classroom and on line when directed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, guardians, and/or staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to meet multiple demands from several people. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, guardians and/or the school community. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Trustees policies.
