Position Purpose
To supervise and coordinate band after school activities to support each student participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, in gaining an enhanced appreciation for music, and an increased level of self-esteem through rehearsals and performances. Encouraging students to embody the Greenwich Public Schools Vision of the Graduate through music ensemble experiences and community participation.

Position Purpose
To supervise and coordinate band after school activities to support each student participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, in gaining an enhanced appreciation for music, and an increased level of self-esteem through rehearsals and performances. Encouraging students to embody the Greenwich Public Schools Vision of the Graduate through music ensemble experiences and community participation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of instrumental music.
- Has prior experience as a band director. Middle school experience preferred.
- Demonstrates organizational ability and skill in interpersonal relations.
- Ability to play an instrument or instruments, conduct students in playing instruments as needed.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed (district-issued digital tools, specifically Google Suite, Schoology and others)
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Plans, rehearses and directs band related musical experiences for the school with a minimum of four evening performances per school year.
- Attends Western Region Festivals with Students
- Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the Arts Coordinator, building principal and other faculty and staff as needed.
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Maintains the EMS Band Library of music and instrument inventory.
- Seeks, initiates and implements participation of the band and band members in out-of-school band experiences appropriate to the curriculum and student interest.
- CT State Certification Music PK-12 (049)
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree preferred.
