    Position Overview
    The Instructional Coach is an instructional leader with both content, assessment, and instructional expertise concentrated in grades K-8 in a variety of subject areas through the analysis of data. The Instructional Coach supports the Building Principal by focusing his or her efforts on improving instruction at the elementary and middle grades and ensuring instruction is (1) is culturally responsive, (2) builds student understanding and skills, (3) is academically rigorous, (4) addresses the curriculum standards and frameworks, and (5) facilitates student sense of engagement, ownership of learning, and increased access to rigorous learning opportunities.

    Desired Skills:
    • Illinois Professional Educator License and endorsement appropriate to assignment
    • Demonstrates knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards and Practices.
    • Experience in evidence-based instructional practices.
    • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
    • Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for teachers and administrators using adult learning practices.
    • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrates strength in organization, communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines.
    • Demonstrates ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team
    • Deep knowledge of and experience in:
    • instructional strategies,
    • coaching strategies,
    • conditions of learning,
    • educational equity,
    • assessment & data informed instruction.
    • Demonstrates interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in equity and culturally responsive teaching practices.
    • Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and skill in content area / assignment
    • Knowledge and experience with Google suite
    • Excellent communication skills

    Qualifications:
    1. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, an advanced degree in Curriculum, Literacy or Mathematics preferred
    2. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in a K-8 setting.
    3. Successful experience as an Instructional Coach or other leadership role. (preferred)

    Reports to:
    Building Principal

    Job Goal:
    To facilitate the design of standards-based, high quality instruction for the elementary and middle grades that connects to increased student learning and strives to eliminate achievement disparities and opportunity gaps. The Instructional Coach works to align instructional practices with district and building goals.

    Roles/Responsibilities:
    • Engage the staff in professional learning through coaching strategies in collaboration with Building and Grade Level Teams, as well as with individuals.
    • Engage in coaching processes with staff that are designed to improve instruction and student achievement while being responsive to the needs of both students and staff. These processes can include but are not limited to the following that can be completed with individuals or teams:
      • Review of student data in order to identify needs
      • Participate in reflective conversations and problem solving
      • Co-planning and collaboration of instruction
      • Modeling and/or co-teaching of lessons
      • Resource development for best practices in teaching and learning
      • Classroom observations that offer non-evaluative feedback
      • Classroom visits to help connect teachers within the building or throughout the district
    • Build trusting relationships with staff members that foster collaboration, reflection and provide feedback.
    • Support teachers in the implementation of the District's vision, mission and strategic plan.
    • Champion the District goals, initiatives and approaches to teaching and learning as they relate to different curricular areas.
    • Plan and facilitate professional learning sessions.
    • Maintain current knowledge of standards-aligned instructional strategies, assessment strategies, and issues in core curricular areas through active research of relevant topics in education and the pursuit of professional learning opportunities outside of the district.
    • Be an active and supportive member of the District Instructional Coach Team and be present at weekly meetings to research, learn, plan and discuss instructional needs and opportunities as they relate to the district goals.

    Other Professional Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a member of the District MTSS team and prepare needed data summaries.
    • Serve as a member of the District Instructional coach team.
    • Oversee and monitor progress of instructional goals established by teams.
    • Cultivate a spirit of inquiry, innovation, and reflection.
    • Motivate, invite and inspire others to expand their learning.
    • Regularly attend team meetings within the building.
    • Meet weekly with building Principal/Assistant Principal or other building level administration.
    • Communicate and collaborate regularly with district-level and building-level administrators and teachers to share grade level/department specific information and updates on implementation progress and goals.

    Supervisory Responsibility:
    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and to have significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. Specific vision/hearing abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and hear and talk in a moderately noisy environment.

    Terms of Employment/Work Year:
    Salary and length of work year to be established in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and the District 103 Teacher Union. 10 additional contracted days to be scheduled in collaboration with the building principal. (These 10 additional days are pending board approval at the regular board meeting in June)

    Evaluation:
    Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Teacher Appraisal Plan and the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and the District 103 Teacher Union.

    Travel:
    Limited travel expected for this position.

    Classification/FLSA Status:
    Professional-Education Association/Exempt

    Working Conditions:
    This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and photocopiers.
