The Elementary Mathematics Coach works under the general direction of the Executive Director of Curriculum Development and Implementation and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Mathematics, this position requires a Mathematics Coach to work with classroom teachers, assisting them with the full implementation of the district's written, taught and tested Mathematics Curriculum. The position entails providing school-based support to teachers; providing onsite and district level professional development in mathematics instruction; and ensuring that the appropriate supports for teachers and students are in place. This position requires the Mathematics Coach to understand a multi-tiered approach to mathematics instruction and the Response to Intervention (RTI) process. This coach may provide direct instruction to students through small group intervention lessons and will assist teachers in following RTI protocol.

Knowledge of standards-based curriculum CCSS Mathematics, with an emphasis on the Standards of Mathematical Practices, Response to Intervention, and current research and research-based practices in mathematics is required. The coaches will be assigned to schools from the central office in consultation with building principals. The Mathematics Coach will be under the immediate direction of the school principal while performing services at the school and under the general direction of the Supervisor of Mathematics K-12. The Mathematics Coach assignments will be based on district and school needs. Mathematics Coaches may be assigned to more than one school. Building rights will be optional dependent upon certification.

Roles & Responsibilities
Collaborate with school and district level staff to continuously improve mathematics instruction:
  • Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve mathematics achievement for students. Specific emphasis will be placed on appropriate strategies for improving the academic achievement of English Language Learners (ELLs), students with disabilities, and struggling readers.Provide feedback to classroom teachers focusing upon differentiated instruction with a multi-tiered framework.Design and deliver professional development for elementary teachers in effective mathematics instruction at the school and district level.Work in conjunction with principals and faculty to develop and sustain professional learning communities at the school sites.Facilitate grade-level meetings that focus on analyzing and interpreting assessment data; setting goals and designing instruction for improved student achievement; and examining student work.Work with administration and teachers to consistently use effective teaching practices and allocate uninterrupted time to mathematics instruction:Support the scheduling and implementation of a multi-tiered approach to mathematics instruction.Assist teachers and paraprofessionals in implementing the district required core mathematics program and the strategic and intensive intervention programs with fidelity.Assist teachers in preparation, planning, and pacing of mathematics instruction.Conduct demonstrations and model lessons for classroom teachers.Work with the principal to ensure frequent monitoring and assessment of student learning:In conjunction with the Office of Research, Planning and Accountability, assist with assessment administration, record keeping, and reporting as required.Support teachers in interpreting diagnostic and progress monitoring data to determine appropriate interventions for struggling students in mathematics.Meet regularly with the principal and faculty to review all assessment results and to ascertain progress toward meeting school and individual student goals.Assist teachers with the mathematics intervention plans and implementation of Response to Intervention.Collaborate with the Teacher Support Team (TST) to develop and implement plans designed to assist struggling students in mathematics.

Continue to increase content and pedagogical knowledge and improve coaching skills:
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as directed by the Mathematics Supervisor K-12 to support and lead the implementation of standards-based curriculum, aligned programs, and research-based instructional strategies.

Salary Rate Range
Teacher Salary Scale + 5 extra days

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university;Master's degree preferredBilingual Spanish PreferredAt least 3 years of successful teaching experience at the elementary school level or in secondary mathematicsAt least 2 years of successful leadership, coaching/mentoring, lead teacher experience preferredStrong organizational and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to analyze and use data to inform instructionDemonstrated ability to design and deliver instruction utilizing research-based teaching practices in the specific area to which you are applying ( Mathematics)Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and to effectively lead teamsDemonstrated ability to design, deliver, and coordinate professional development in a variety of venues, (before/after school, embedded during the day through coaching work, planning times, meetings with colleagues)Demonstrated ability to effectively use research to guide decision making and planningExcellent writing and computational skillsAbility to present to a variety of audiences including parents and community membersComprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power PointAbility to use software to organize data for analysisAbility to design and deliver effective training modules using power pointAbility to support teacher use of digital media included in core programs to supplement instructionAbility to learn and use instructional technology as implementedYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
