JOB GOAL
The SLP assesses for communication and language disorders as specified by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The SLP implements and conducts speech services for students as determined by the ARD committee.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or Audiology from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas License as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) (preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an SLP in an educational setting (preferred)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct Full Individual Evaluations as part of the multi-disciplinary evaluation team to identify students who may be eligible for speech and language services.
• Conduct re-evaluations of identified students in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with parents, teachers and other relevant staff members in developing and implementing IEPs
• Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans for students with speech impairments.
• Translate appraisal data into an instructional relevant speech and language program.
• Plan schedule, and implement all direct and/or indirect service as needed.
• Provide services in an inclusive setting and coordinate intervention with general education staff.
• Conduct and/or participate in ARD meetings as needed.
• Function as a consultant in speech and language to parents and staff as required.
• Assist in the intervention process for students who are suspected of having a speech impairment.
• Attend staffing(s) of children served, as needed.
• Provide parent training in the area of speech and language, as needed.
• Take part in district in-service and public awareness presentations.
• Attend and participate in in-service opportunities designed to enhance the skills of the special education staff.
• Maintain service related records, service logging for Medicaid purposes, and progress notes.
• Maintain student's audit folders.
• Supervise licensed assistants in speech-language pathology, Clinical Fellowship Year interns, and students as needed.
• Follow billing and reimbursement procedures for Medicaid.
• Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and coworkers
• Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
• Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
• Ability to analyze data
• Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
• Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
• Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
• Moderate travel is required.
