The Roaring Fork School District is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our Finance Team. This is a full-time, year round position. Pay starts at $19.89/hr or more based on previous experience and is full-time benefits eligible, including employer paid health insurance and paid time off. Come join our team!

DEFINITION

Perform payroll, accounting, and clerical duties in the preparation and processing of the District's monthly payroll; ensure compliance with payroll rules and guidelines and maintain a variety of accounting logs, files and records.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Payroll Coordinator.

This is a non exempt position and works 252 days per school year.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Maintain payroll hard copy files.

  • Maintain employee time records and the integration between multiple software platforms.

  • Compile and enter payroll data from electronic time sheets and other records; generate computer reports necessary to compute and verify payroll data; review wages and deductions computed; correct errors as necessary to ensure accuracy of payroll.

  • Prepare, reconcile and remit employee deductions including wage assignments, supplemental insurances.

  • Assist with entering substitute teacher monthly pay into Infinite Visions.

  • Provide payroll information and answer employee questions regarding pay, deductions, leave accruals, loan balances and related payroll questions.

  • Assist with data entry for beginning and ending procedures for calendar and fiscal year for all calendar functions.

  • Utilize various computer applications and software packages; enter data, maintain and generate reports from a database or in-house network system; create spreadsheets, enter data and generate reports using Word, Excel, etc.

  • Assist with annual audits including preparation of required reports or other documentation.

  • Understand and comply with FLSA regulations regarding time reporting; maintain and track non exempt timesheets.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    Principles and procedures of payroll preparation.

    Principles and practices of employee payroll deductions and related payroll issues.

    Methods and techniques and generating payroll reports.

    English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

    Modern office procedures and methods.

    Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

    Principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting.

    Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel and Access.

    Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation.

    Mathematic and accounting principles.

    General Human Resources practices, policies and guidelines.

    Preferred knowledge of software API, EDI or integration mapping

    Ability to:

    Collect, compile and research information and data.

    Prepare and maintain accurate and confidential records and reports.

    Accurately count, record and balance assigned transactions.

    Interpret and apply District policies and procedures.

    Independently prepare correspondence and memoranda.

    Implement and maintain a standard filing system.

    Work independently in the absence of supervision.

    Maintain confidential records and reports.

    Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages.

    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES

    Experience:

    Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll plus additional work in accounting, bookkeeping, and general clerical work. Experience with TimeClock Plus time keeping system is a plus.

    Training:

    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional coursework or certificate in payroll, bookkeeping, accounting or a related field is desired.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Office environment; exposure to computer screens.

    Physical Conditions:

    Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of times; use of computer keyboard.
