Job Description:

The Math Intervention Teacher is responsible for students and their progress toward the achievement of academic success in math. The Math Intervention Teacher will work in direct consultation with the classroom teacher to identify eligible students for intervention, monitoring and assessing student progress, and follow-up with students, teachers, and parents during and after intervention. The Math Intervention Teacher will use their expertise to assess student pro?ciency, identify speci?c areas of ability, de?ciency and/or strength, prescribe an appropriate individualized intervention plan, group students with similar needs for instruction, provide individual and group instruction, evaluate student performance relative to established grade level standards and individual progress, and report student progress to parents, teachers, and the school administration.

The Interventionist will provide staff development to teachers and support staff on the delivery of instructional interventions to increase student achievement and decrease referrals to the child study team. This educator must have skills and knowledge of differentiation of instruction, co-teaching practices, and varying teaching methodologies and strategies at the elementary level. The Interventionist will utilize and analyze a variety of student performance data sources for the purpose of designing appropriate interventions.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree in job related area.

Experience: 3-5 years of inclusion teaching experience in a diverse, urban educational setting.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or the ability to obtain one, with an endorsement in K-6 Elementary. Mathematics K-12 endorsement preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Identify research-based, effective and innovative approaches and strategies for students below grade level.
• Facilitate the consistent use of effective mathematics instructional strategies by supporting teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, demonstration lessons, reflecting, and focused classroom observations.
• Create and implement professional development aligned with division-wide goals.
• Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of school and division policies and procedures, and be able to effectively articulate to students, parents, faculty and staff.
• Collaborate with teachers individually and in small groups to analyze student work, reflect on instructional delivery, and differentiate instruction accordingly.
• Implement small group or one-on-one interventions/activities designed to meet the needs of students below grade level.
• Collaborate with administration to develop and set student achievement goals related to growth in mathematics and professional development goals that are pedagogically-based and data-driven.
• Create and maintain data reports on interventions.
• Other responsibilities as determined by building the principal.
