Brief Description The Specialist, Student Health Services, assists with the supervision and coordination of work of resource nurses, school nurses and health clinic specialists and serves as a division wide contact for school administrators and relevant applications of student health services.

Detailed Description The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
* Provides leadership to ensure high quality school health programs which demonstrate fidelity to evidence-based school nursing practices.
* Assists the Supervisor, Student Health Services, in the development, oversight and implementation of health-related training programs for all schools; assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of school health programs, including performance evaluations of resource nurses and school nurses.
* Demonstrates knowledge of school health related services to assist resource nurses, school nurses and health clinic specialists in effective management of student health care needs to support individual student achievement; consults with parents, health care providers, staff and principals regarding specific student health situations and assists in problem-solving; works collaboratively with other areas of Pupil Services; maintains on-going communication with community health partners. Keeps the Supervisor of Student Health Services informed regarding work and progress of school and community collaborations.
* Plans and implements professional development for school-based staff focused on department priorities for prevention and intervention; participates on department committees to promote leadership for priority initiatives and to facilitate implementation in the schools.
* Assists with development, review and updating of school policy.
* Assists in the development, coordination, revision, and editing of evidence-based best practices, procedures and protocols of Student Health Services; evaluates the effectiveness of the school health program; determines needs, develops plans to meet needs and evaluate outcomes, and ensures that LCPS Student Health Services are
consistent with and follow the guidelines established by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Department of Health.
* Collects, analyzes and reports outcome-oriented data related to the effectiveness of school health practices for all students and schools; uses data to determine trends and issues and communicates data results and implications to stakeholders.
* Promotes professional growth and building of staff morale, keeps abreast of current research, participates in professional organizations, and keeps staff informed of state and national issues and trends related to student health and school nursing.

Job Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Nursing
* Five years of experience as a school nurse; administrative experience in nursing preferred
* Proven expertise and exceptional skills in health training in large and small groups
* Excellent organizational, management and leadership skills
* Proven professional/leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies
* Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to deliver professional presentations

certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
