Overview
Role: The South Ward Promise Neighborhood (SWPN) Success Mentor Specialist will lead and implement a robust Chronic Absenteeism Strategy and Campaigns throughout the Promise Neighborhood footprint. This person will work directly with the SWPN Director of Operations to develop and manage high-quality partnerships to support school communities, take a vested interest in community partners and increase their presence at partner meetings. SWPN students will be provided with tiered services (universal, targeted, and intensive). Success Mentor Specialist will make appropriate referrals, follow-up on and monitor referrals, and enter data in our management information system. The Success Mentor Specialist will manage the Success Mentor Team and in collaboration with the Director of Operations provide support, guidance, and lead trainings and provide professional development. Success Mentors will be a critical part of a school-based team working together to support student success and family stability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


    • The Success Mentor Specialist will build the capacity of schools to support students and families through the following duties.
    • Work with schools' Vice Principal of Culture/Direct of Student Services, Social Worker and Attendance Team
    • Teachers to conduct individual student assessments for those at risk to be chronically absent
    • Lead the Implementation of Chronic Absenteeism Strategy and other Community-wide Campaigns
    • Develop and Lead On-board training (1 or 2 weeks) for Success Mentor
    • Develop an individual plan of action to support student achievement
    • Link students to support services and encourage them to reach their achievement goals
    • Monitor student performance in programs and services
    • Help families to support student success by fostering a home environment that encourages student achievement, including conducting home visits
    • Develop and track the student success plan in the database system
    • Maintain and update all contacts, referrals, case management notes, and outcomes


Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
    • Ability to learn and grow through a professional development plan process and succeed within a result- oriented culture
    • A devotion and ability to build close relationships with scholars and their families, and to motivate them through positive interviewing, feedback, and reinforcement.
    • Experience and proficiency with technology
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the cultural and internal barriers which may exist for under-resourced families
    • Strong commitment to belief and expectation that children growing up in the South Ward of Newark can succeed and thrive academically
    • A passion for addressing issues of poverty, equity, and access
    • Highly motivated and innovative
    • Strong school and community relationships


SALARY, GOALS AND EMPLOYMENT PERIOD
    • Salary Range: Based Upon Experience / Performance Contract
    • Employment Period: Twelve Months
