Director of Bilingual & JK - 12 English Learner Programs

Overview :
The Director of Bilingual and JK-12 English Learner Programs is responsible for the support, oversight, and coordination of a diverse array of renowned bilingual and English learner programs and related services throughout the Cambridge Public Schools. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced candidate, to support CPS' focus on equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching. Our district welcomes and provides high quality instruction to scholars from more than 70 language groups, diverse social and economic backgrounds, and learning needs. As a result, the ideal candidate will have teaching and administrative experience leading English language acquisition and bilingual programs that provide comprehensive language learning experiences, are inclusive, and culturally responsive.

The Director of Bilingual and English Learner Programs will work collaboratively with CPS district educators, school leaders, students, their caregivers, and community partners to provide high quality instruction and program support. The Director will oversee the overall development of program implementation and monitoring of educational programs including curriculum development, assessment, and English learner classification and placement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience and sensitivity for diverse students and families, and possess social and emotional intelligence. Fluency and proficiency in English and another language is preferred.

Job duties include supervisor and support for:
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Programs grades JK - 12
  • English as a Second Language programs
  • Two-way bilingual immersion programs
  • Supervision, support, and evaluation of educators
  • English Learner assessment, identification, placement and reclassification process
  • Compliance/monitoring Former English Learner
  • Establishing and maintaining an English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC)
  • English Learner After School and Summer Enrichment Learning Programs
  • Management of Title III and other grants
  • ESL Parent Program
  • Professional Learning opportunities to support English and bilingual learners
  • Compliance and mandates set forth by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
