Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) is committed to providing our students with a world-class academic and technical education that incorporates classroom learning and "real-world" work-based learning experiences. A full-time Career Experience Consultant works closely with career and technical education (CTE) faculty, local industry, business, government, and centers of higher education to develop an annual program of high value experiential learning opportunities that foster career exploration and preparation.

In this position the Career Experience Consultant works collaboratively with CTE teachers in the implementation and coordination of career experiences along the continuum of work-based learning as defined by CCPS and the Virginia Department of Education. This work is performed within specific departmental objectives and policies, and; employee plans own work and coordinates with others as necessary. Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the department to explain and implement programs and policies; considerable professional judgment is required.

Essential Job Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Performs networking and marketing duties for the career experience opportunities offered by CCPS CTE programs and the business community.
  • Creates promotional pieces, such as brochures, news releases, and computer presentations.
  • Speaks at CCPS, business, or community events.
  • Attends and/or presents at conferences where information on cultivating school-business partnerships is shared.
  • Represents and supports at CCPS, business, and community events where career experience awareness and opportunities are being discussed.
  • Writes articles or correspondence; communicates with individual CCPS staff, parents, community, or business leaders about career experience opportunities.
  • Assists with CCPS or business/community projects that foster the development of career experience opportunities for CTE students.
  • Assists in planning and developing programs to meet identified needs.
  • Conducts and supports annual local assessment of work-based learning and CTE programs and activities in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Leads CTE teacher meetings and professional development training as pertaining to work-based learning.
  • Provides support and coordination of specific work-based learning experiences across the school/division in the areas of but not limited to career fairs, guest speaker series, field trips, information interviews, job shadows, internships, apprenticeships, and cooperative education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of areas of specialization; knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to CTE and work-based learning. Knowledge of learning theories. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to train and advise staff. Ability to gather data, prepare and present reports accurately and on time. Demonstrate skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, and research and planning. Ability to plan, organize, and perform work independently and as a member of a team.

Requirements

Valid Virginia teaching license with prior teaching experience and experience working with career and technical education programs preferred, or comparable work experience in workforce development.
