    Providing training classes for bus drivers and monitors to safely transport students, staff and community while sustaining a high level of customer service. Qualifications: Education & Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of two years of experience in driving for a school district transportation department.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Knowledge of reading maps.
    • Knowledge of District area.
    • Ability to compile and review route information.
    • Operating knowledge of school buses and two-way radios.
    • English language skills, bilingual desired.
    • Basic mathematical skills.
    • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel in a positive and cooperative manner.
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
    • Ability to read, understand and interpret policies and procedures, laws, rules and instructions.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to pass various pre-employment background screenings.
    • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures.
    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Valid Commercial driver's license (CDL) with BP2S endorsement.
    • BOCES Safety Training Certificate required within 60 days of hire.
    • American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Certificate required within three months of hire.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and review training by:
  • Instructing new bus drivers and monitors regarding their job responsibilities, adhering to federal, state, District and Transportation guidelines and procedures, e.g., wheelchair/lift, star seat, adverse weather and mountain driving.
  • Developing and administering professional development curriculum for new and existing employees according to federal, state, local and District regulations and guidelines, e.g., special needs training, mountain training.
  • Monitoring transportation employees on evacuations, driving and pre/post trip procedures.
  • Maintain communications by:
  • Conferencing with supervisor, District staff, parents and students and/or law enforcement officers, e.g., assigned routes, schedules, special needs accommodations, accident reports, field trips, student safety, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Being accessible via District communication devices.
  • Responding to requests submitted electronically.
  • Maintain accurate records by:
  • Compiling data for reporting to federal, state, local agencies and District, e.g., verification of time worked, mileage, student attendance count/roster, Medicaid, field trips, traffic violations.
  • Reporting incidents in a timely manner, e.g., discipline/behavior, child neglect/abuse, injuries and accidents.
  • Generating and maintaining new employee training files.
  • Participating in required professional development and training.
  • Driving students safely to and from school/destination, as needed by:
  • Following a specified route when picking up and dropping off students.
  • Arriving and departing on timely manner.
  • Establishing a safe and orderly environment, e.g., Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
  • Adhering to federal, state, District and Transportation Department guidelines and procedures.
  • Performing safety drills with students.
  • Reviewing proper safety procedures with students.
  • Complying with proper health and safety processes and procedures, e.g., Universal Precautions, Crisis Prevention Intervention.
  • Assisting students on/off the bus, e.g., medical equipment, backpacks, wheelchair lifts, Star seats.
  • Provide services to the District by:
  • Remaining available for afterhours dispatch as per a scheduled assignment.
  • Assisting bus drivers in transporting students when a bus is out of commission.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity by cross training within the department.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality of any information regarding students, personnel and all job-related matters.
