Health, Physical Education, and Wellness Department Overview:
The mission of the Cambridge Public Schools Health, Physical Education and Wellness department is to teach students the physical, cognitive (intellectual), and social skills necessary to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle. This mission is achieved through the delivery of a planned, sequential, K-12 Curriculum that draws its content and program goals from the MADOE&SE Comprehensive Health Frameworks and the SHAPE America standards. Our students are provided with meaningful, relevant learning opportunities to support the development of the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to lead and maintain a healthy and physically active life.

The Role:
The Health, Physical Education and Wellness (H/PE) department seeks a 7 hour Instructional Aide to join our team. Reporting to the Coordinator of Health/Physical Education it is the responsibility of the Health,
Physical Education and Wellness Instructional Aide (K-12) to assist Physical Education/Wellness teachers with the education of students in accordance with the Massachusetts Health Curriculum Framework which includes health and physical education. The Physical Education Aide will assist the Health, Physical Education and Wellness teacher in the set up and take down of equipment, student monitoring in locker rooms and classroom spaces, and other duties required by a teacher. The Health, Physical Education and Wellness Instructional Aide (K-12) will assist the Health, Physical Education and and Wellness teacher in teaching and assessing physical education programs such as aquatics, team sports, adventure lessons, individual sports, and Health education.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Health & Physical Education Instructional Aide you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree or 48 college credits.
  • A love for children and desire to work with elementary and secondary aged students.
  • Experience and/or education in: health education, physical education, and teaching swim development skills.
  • Successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR/WSI/lifeguarding certification preferred.
  • Experience leading instruction in multicultural and urban community settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
