  • JOB TITLE: Classroom Paraprofessional Substitute
    LOCATION: District Wide
    WORK YEAR/SCHEDULE: Work as needed between 8/17/2020 - 6/3/2021
    WORK STATUS: Substitute, Classified, Hourly Non-Exempt
    REPORTS TO: School Principal

    POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing assistance to the classroom teacher in the areas of supervision and general activities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Co-planning, delivering, and reflecting upon daily lesson plans with classroom teacher.
    2. Assists in the supervision and activities for students.
    3. Monitors and assist with child behavior management.
    4. Monitors students in non-classroom settings, and assists with everyday situations.
    5. Attend various meetings as needed.
    6. Perform other duties as directed.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Required
    • High School diploma or G.E.D.
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Willingness to enroll in Early Childhood Education Classes from an accredited college.
    • Meet NCLB guidelines by having one of the following:
    1. At least 48 credit hours completed at an institute of higher education; OR
    2. An Associate's (or higher) degree; OR
    3. Must be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in reading, writing, and math. Testing is administered through the School District.
    Preferred
    • Experience using computers, word processing programs and general office equipment.
    • One to three years of experience as an elementary paraprofessional highly desired.
    • Experience working with Special Education students preferred.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English desirable.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment. Mostly clean; some noise; interactions with students in a general education classroom setting. Occasional lifting 5 to 50 pounds (some positions require the lifting of students), frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling and occasional sitting, reaching, stooping, and squatting.

    CLEARANCES
    Must clear background check through Colorado Department of Human Services in addition to an online Records check and FBI Fingerprint check through Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Must also submit receipt of TB test results completed within the last 10 years and receipt of a Physical completed within one year of date of hire.

    SALARY
    Pay rate is $15.06 per hour based upon Class 1 of the Para Educator Salary Schedule.

    BENEFITS:
    This position does not qualify for benefits. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 10% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA and the District contributes 20.9% in addition to employee contribution.
