Chief FInancial Officer is to oversee the finances associated with the day to day and long-term business operations of Hamilton County Schools. These activities include the responsibility for budgeting and accounting of funds in excess of 400 million dollars received and disbursed by the County. The CFO is the executive administrator for the Offices of Accounting, Finance, and Procurement.

The CFO is also responsible for activities associated with non-agency business office related functions. These activities center on providing technical assistance to the District in the areas of school finance and school business operations to safeguard system assets and taxpayer funds. Further, the CFO reports to the School Board on the financial condition of the school system.

Lastly, the mission of the CFO is to ensure that the business related operations of the Hamilton County Department of Education operate in an efficient and effective manner, so the primary focus of the agency is to increase student achievement and make us the fastest improving school district in the state of Tennessee.

  • Leads development of budget and ensures alignment of spending to district strategic plan.
  • Identifies, develops, and manages teams to implement operational process improvements to ensure high organizational efficiency and effectiveness of the District's central office functions to best serve schools and students.
  • Leads the district in transitioning to a variable-cost organization and reducing fixed costs and liabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws for financial resources.
  • Oversees the management of all state and self-funded grants for compliance and usage.
  • Ensures all required state and federal reports are prepared and submitted within program guidelines.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements budget for assigned area; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.

Additional Job Information

Education: Masters degree in Finance, Business, and/or Accounting related field required

Certification/Licensure: None required, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management including governmental accounting, auditing, budget administration and general management. Experience with school administration strongly preferred.

Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, and all other applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
