Are you a caring, enthusiastic and flexible individual who enjoys interacting with children and youth? Do you want to help make a difference in your community?

If so, we want to hear from you!

The Essex Westford School District (EWSD), serving Essex Junction, Essex Town, and Westford is looking for substitute teachers and paraeducators to work on an "as needed" basis in all subject areas and grade levels.

We are seeking folks who are effectively able to manage student behaviors and follow the lesson plans of the teacher; willing/able to be flexibly assigned/reassigned based on school needs; able to handle stress and resolve conflicts; able to maintain confidentiality of student incidences and records; and are reliable in their attendance at work. Love of, and dedication to, the success of all students a must! Experience working with young adults or children required. Experience with Restorative Practices, PBIS, Responsive Classroom, Developmental Design or other social emotional learning program preferred. Industry certification (e.g. licensed Cosmetologists, licensed Dental Assistants, Registered Nurses) desirable for some positions. If you are committed to the success of all students but do not meet these qualifications listed above, you are still encouraged to apply.

We anticipate changing conditions due to COVID-19 and will update our policies and procedures as necessary. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our staff and students, and will provide resources and support on an ongoing basis.
Our district has created and regularly reviews a COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan and launched a website for all 2020/21 communications. Training courses and materials will be provided to all staff.
As of July 30, our plan is to open in a hybrid model this fall, beginning with two in-person days for all students and three days of remote learning. Per state mandate, everyone will be required to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing while on district property.

To help you be successful in the new position (if selected), applicants without a teaching license are encouraged to complete the Introductory Teacher Training program offered by Frontline Education. We will also pay substitutes for up to one day to "shadow" a teacher or paraeducator to learn how to better manage student behavior.

Short-term substitute teaching and paraeducator pay rate is $126.00/day.

If you are willing and available to work on short notice (e.g., the morning of the absence) to cover unanticipated absences, we highly encourage you to apply.

If you are looking to become a teacher or paraeducator, this is a great way for you to get your foot in the door and get some experience to help you achieve this goal. We have hired many of our substitutes as full-time teachers or paraeducators within the district based on our experiences with them as a substitute.

EWSD is committed to building a culturally diverse and inclusive environment. Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse community populations and expected to strengthen such capacity if hired.

For consideration, please apply electronically through www.schoolspring.com. If you are having difficulty completing the Schoolspring application, please send a resume and letter of interest to: mbreuer@ewsd.org.
Selected candidates will be notified.
