The Mechanical Systems Manager is responsible for all phases of design and construction as related to mechanical systems (heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, and control systems), including supervision of the Building Automation Systems Technician. This position requires regular visits to work sites and attends after-hours meetings as necessary.

Support Administrator Salary Schedule, Level 7 (starting at $90, 635)

Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, with an emphasis on building systems. A current registration as a Pennsylvania Professional Engineer is preferred.

- Four (4) years of experience in design of mechanical building systems.

- Strong oral and written communication are essential.

- Accurate hearing and listening skills are required.

- Ability to work after hours and on weekends as required to monitor construction projects.

- Ability to wear/use personal protective equipment as necessary on construction sites.

Residency Requirements : City of Pittsburgh Residency Required

Essential Job Functions :
1. Prepares plans and specifications for mechanical building system renovations.

2. Directs efforts of mechanical engineering consultants, prepare special studies and reports, coordinates preventative maintenance efforts on mechanical building systems, represents Facilities Division at meetings, advises Maintenance staff on mechanical building systems repair, reviews shop drawings, change orders, and payment requests, assists in the planning, scheduling, and budgeting of future projects, maintains mechanical building system records and reviews and signs off on consultant mechanical building system design work.

3. Preparation of the budget for the mechanical portion of the Capital Program.

4. Preparation and administration of various maintenance contracts.

5. Preparation of requests for proposals for various consulting engineers used in preparing contract documents for bidding.

6. Invoice review and payment approval for the various mechanical maintenance and small contracts.

7. Participation in the School District of Pittsburgh Joint Labor / Management Energy Committee.

8. Participation and review of all energy related proposals and solicitations.

9. Supervision of the District's building automation system and supervision of the Building Automation Technician.

10. Oversight of energy performance contracts.

11. Implementation, record keeping, and coordination of maintenance activities associated with the Elevator inspection and testing service contract.

12. Review HVAC system water treatment reports with Plant Operations staff and coordinate any necessary repairs arising from these reports.

Additional Job Information :
This position is moderately sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires moderately physical effort and may be typically subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.

1. Indoors in busy office, working in close proximity to co-workers.

2. Frequently required to work at a fast pace, under consistent short deadlines.

4. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.

5. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.

6. Considerable amount of phone, e-mail and written correspondence activity.

7. This position requires the individual to stand 10 to 20% and walk 20 to 30% of the workday. Climbing ladders and staircases of varying heights are required while performing on-site inspections and climbing onto roofs.

8. Must maintain a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania driver's license and must maintain a dependable vehicle, including appropriate proof of automobile insurance.
