PRIMARY FUNCTION: Transportation Field Supervisors provide supervisory level support in the filed for the daily transportation operation. This includes, but is not limited to, supervising directly a staff of school bus drivers and monitors, providing assistance to transportation and school personnel, responding to and documenting emergencies and/or accidents, evaluating drivers and monitors, provides input/feedback for developing and updating bus routes, and serving as liaison between the transportation department and school personnel, parents, and the community.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director, Regular and Special Education Services

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-12
WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level: High school diploma
  2. Preferred: An Associate's Degree; or 60 semester / 90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited organization
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • One year of experience in school bus management.
  • Thorough knowledge of bus routing and map reading.
  • Thorough knowledge of school locations and local roadways systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of accident prevention and investigation procedures.
  • General knowledge of rules and regulations relevant to school bus transportation.
  • Ability to drive a school bus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community, school personnel, and transportation department personnel.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License; Commercial Driver's License.
  • Ability to accurately document and record information as well as to store and retrieve information on bus routes and accidents using a computer.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate effectively bus drivers and bus driver monitors.
  • Ability to organize and conduct in-service workshops.
  • Ability to communicate using a two-way radio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Directly supervisors and evaluates the work of school bus drivers and school bus monitors.
  2. Conducts student and personnel administration initial investigations.
  3. Conducts semi-annual bus evacuation drills.
  4. Evaluates routes and pupil stops for safety and efficiently.
  5. Responds to and assists drivers and monitors with problems and/or emergencies.
  6. Participates in placement of school bus drivers.
  7. Meets with drivers, school officials, and parents to discuss and resolve specific transportation problems/complaints.
  8. Tabulates student counts and bus loads for state report and daily efficiency.
  9. Ensures compliance with school bus safety regulations.
  10. Distributes and audits time mileage reports.
  11. Participates in-service to refine driving skills and to provide instruction.
  12. Prepares and conducts driver in-service meetings.
  13. Communicates with drivers using two-way radio.
  14. Promotes public relations with schools and community
  15. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the Organization.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250- days. Non-Exempt, (G-12)

OFFICE Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
